8 ways to save money at Sainsbury's

SHOPPERS have only just realised that a huge supermarket has slashed the price of Cadbury’s chocolate to pennies.

Sainsbury’s has reduced a bunch of Cadbury bags to as little as 82p.

Curlywurly’s, Crunchie rocks, Twirl bites, Oreo bites and Dairy Milk buttons are just some of the sweet treats on offer

Nectar card users will have 13 different types of goodie bags to choose from

Usually, these sorts of chocolate bags sell for £1.65

But the deal is only available to customers signed up to the supermarket’s Nectar card scheme.

For customers with a Nectar card, these chocolate bags sell for £1.65.

But be warned, the deal is said to last from Monday, September 16 to Sunday, September 22.

Posting in the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK Facebook page, three shoppers shared their chocolate hauls with evidence of their tiny spending.

“Sainsbury’s 82p each with Nectar card”, one wrote, with pictures of the goodies attached.

Curlywurly’s, Crunchie rocks, Twirl bites, Oreo bites and Dairy Milk buttons are just some of the sweet treats pictured.

However, Nectar card users will have 13 different types of goodie bags to choose from.

Combined, the Facebook posts have racked up almost a thousand likes, with plenty of comments to match.

“Just got six packs kids will be happy when they get home”, replied one shopper.

How do Nectar cards work?

Under the Nectar card scheme, customers collect points when buying certain products or goods, in-store and online.

You receive one loyalty point for every £1 spent.

You also get one point for every £1 spent on fuel bought at Sainsbury’s petrol stations and can pick up points at hundreds of partners as well, including Esso and eBay.

You can register and download an e-Nectar Card by downloading the app on your smartphone.

You then swipe it every time you shop and the points are added to your account, which can be used to get money off future purchases.

Each point is effectively worth 0.5p, meaning you need 500 points to get £2.50 off.

How to save money on chocolate

WE all love a bit of chocolate from now and then, but you don't have to break the bank buying your favourite bar.

Consumer reporter Sam Walker reveals how to cut costs…

Go own brand – if you’re not too fussed on flavour and just want to supplant your chocolate cravings, you’ll save by going for supermarket’s own brand bars.

Shop around – if you’ve spotted your favourite variety at the supermarket, make sure you check if it’s cheaper elsewhere.

Websites like Trolley.co.uk let you compare prices on products across all the major chains to see if you’re getting the best deal.

Look out for yellow stickers – supermarket staff put yellow, and sometimes orange and red, stickers on to products to show they’ve been reduced.

They usually do this if the product is coming to the end of its best before date or the packaging is slightly damaged.

Buy bigger bars – most of the time, but not always, chocolate is cheaper per 100g the larger the bar.

So if you’ve got the appetite, and you were going to buy a hefty amount of chocolate anyway, you might as well go bigger.
