AUTUMN has arrived, and the scent of pumpkin-spiced lattes is in the air.
If you want to create a warm and cosy scent at home, then have a go at making your own wax melts.
Here’s how to go about it . . .
MELTING POT: Wax melts are a fantastic low-cost alternative to pricey scented candles.
To make them, simply heat wax with scented oils in a pan then pour into a mould and leave to cool.
There’s a free, easy-to-follow guide at hobbycraft.co.uk for beginners.

To then use your homemade melts, buy a tealight burner at Wilko.com, for £1.99.
SCRAP HEAP: Do not let half-used or broken candles go to waste.
Save leftover wax from burnt candles and, once you’ve collected enough, melt them together to craft melts.
It’s a great way to reduce waste.

COLOURFUL IDEAS: Why not use natural ingredients from your kitchen to colour your melts?
Turmeric gives a warm yellow tone, while cinnamon adds a brownish tint.
It’s budget-friendly and adds a lovely seasonal touch.
TRAY SAVER: You don’t need expensive moulds, as silicone ice-cube or cake trays can do the trick just as well.
But if you’re making melts as gifts, consider buying heart-shaped silicone moulds, currently reduced from £2.49 to £1.86 at The Range.
BUY BIG: If knocking up a large batch of melts, or thinking of trying your hand at candle-making, buying essential fragrance oils in bulk is a good idea.
You can get an autumn-themed six-pack at amazon.co.uk for £12.99.
Just follow the instructions to ensure you’re using the safe amount of oil for each batch.
READY-MADE: If you love the idea of wax melts but are not up for the DIY process, then check out Mitzee’s Melts at etsy.co.uk.
Their cinnamon bun-scented melts are perfect for the season and cost £1.85 per pack, bringing all the cosy vibes into your home without the hassle.
