And, for the first time ever, a Ham & Cheese Toastie joins the Saver Subs menu

The new menu, brought in from September 4, features two new Signature Series Subs and the return of Jalapeno Cheese Bread.

And, for the first time ever, a Ham & Cheese Toastie joins the Saver Subs menu line up, filled with ham, melted American-style cheese and Subway’s much-loved Chipotle Southwest Sauce.

A spokesman said: ";This great value take on the traditional staple is perfect for those on the go."

One new sub is the Furious Chicken, filled with Rotisserie-style chicken, crispy waffle fries, American-style cheese, crisp lettuce, cucumbers, zesty red peppers, tangy red onions, spicy jalapenos and finished off with a blend of Garlic & Herb and X-Spicy Chipotle Southwest sauces.

The second new sub is the Signature Series Steak Texicana.

It has Philly steak, melted peppered and American-style cheeses, lettuce, tomato, red peppers, red onions and jalapenos; with a blend of Subway’s famous Chipotle Southwest and BBQ sauces.

Other new items include the X-Spicy Nacho Chicken from the Saver Subs menu, featuring Nacho Chicken bites, melted American-style cheese, lettuce, tomato, red onions and X-Spicy Chipotle Southwest Sauce.

We've asked Subway for list of prices of the new items, though costs can vary from store to store.

Deniz Safa, Director of regional culinary & innovation for Europs at Subway said: "From our latest Wild & Mild Subs to our signature sauces, we’ve really dialled up the spice levels."

Subway Price Shock: From $5 Foot-Longs to $9 Subs

Members of Subway Rewards can get one Footlong every week until October 6.

To get the offer, all you need to do is scan the QR code found in your Subway App.

This can be done when ordering in a restaurant, or when ordering ahead to collect.

The Subway app is free to download on the Apple app Store or Google Play store.

Subway Rewards was recently relaunched and allows customers to earn points on every purchase.

These can then be converted into Subway Cash to be used on any menu items, with no minimum spend.

Under the new loyalty scheme, which was launched on May 16, customers earn 10 points per £1 on spending of up to £149.99 in a calendar year, 11 points per £1 spent between £150 and £349.99, and 12 points per £1 spent above that.

Each 150 points will get customers £1 off in-store orders and while there is no minimum spend, customers need to redeem at least £1 at a time.

It comes after McDonald's launched a big menu shakeup, with six new items.

How to eat for cheap

Eating out can burn a hole in your budget, says Sun Savers editor Lana Clements, but there are a few tricks to get a meal for less.

SECRET EATS: Mystery diners can get a free meal in exchange for giving feedback on their experience.

There are a number of firms that recruit people to dine and review.

You need to sign up to one that will give you a location and a brief on what to asses on the visit.

Try Hgem, which works with restaurants including Dishoom, Flat Iron and Brewdog.

Normally, you pay for the food and then get reimbursed for your visit. Apply at mysterydining.net.

Service Scan works with fast food outlets as well as top-end gourmet establishments. See service-scan.com.

LEARNERS: You can get cut-price food by sampling menus from trainee chefs. Catering colleges often have restaurants with delicious meals that are whipped up by students.

They are usually only open in term time and you will have to dig around to find your nearest venue.

For example, The Stables Restaurant is part of Oaklands College in Hertfordshire. Or you could try the Scholars Restaurant at City of Glasgow College.

DO IT FOR THE KIDS: During the holidays, numerous chains run kids-eat-free or cheap offers that cut the cost of going out as a family.

For example previous offers have seen up to two children get a free meal all day at Bills when one adult ordered a main dish. The kids’ menu includes mac and cheese, as well as fish fingers and chips.

At Subway, children got a 4in sub, snack and drink for free when an adult bought a foot-long sub.
