Carlsberg costs on average £4.83, while a Carling, Fosters or Tennent's could set you back £4.87, £4.65 or £4.40 respectively.

The full list of beers on offer for £2 are below:

  • Carlsberg
  • Fosters
  • Pravha
  • Flint Eye
  • Tennent's
  • Carling
  • Coors Light
  • Innis & Gunn
  • Estrella
  • West 4 Lager

However, participating pubs will have different beers on offer for £2, so you may not be able to get your favourite at a discount.

Also the promotion is only available in Greene King managed pubs only, excluding pubs in London.

So that means punters in the capital will have to search elsewhere for a discounted pint of booze.

The offer is also not limited to one drink per person, but of course you should drink responsibility.

Olivia Robertson, head of marketing, for Greene King pubs, said: “While we can’t guarantee that the Great British weather will get any better, we can guarantee good times ahead with our £2 Pint offer to toast the season and give reason for friends and family to gather socially before the end of summer at any one of our 700 pubs nationwide.

"High street shops enjoy an end of summer sale – so why not your favourite local Greene King pub too. As always, our Greene King staff will be happy to serve all of our guests responsibly.”

What other offers are on?

It is not just Greene King which is running offers this month.

Wetherspoons has slashed the price of breakfast to £2.99 or less and it includes bacon, eggs, sausage and a hash brown.

How can I save money at Wetherspoons?

FREE refills - Buy a £1.50 tea, coffee or hot chocolate and you can get free refills. The deal is available all day, every day.

Check a map - Prices can vary from one location the next, even those close to each other.

So if you're planning a pint at a Spoons, it's worth popping in nearby pubs to see if you're settling in at the cheapest.

Choose your day - Each night the pub chain runs certain food theme nights.

For instance, every Thursday night is curry club, where diners can get a main meal and a drink for a set price cheaper than usual.

Pick-up vouchers - Students can often pick up voucher books in their local near universities, which offer discounts on food and drink, so keep your eyes peeled.

Get appy - The Wetherspoons app allows you to order and pay for your drink and food from your table - but you don't need to be in the pub to use it.

Taking full advantage of this, cheeky customers have used social media to ask their friends and family to order them drinks. The app is free to download on the App Store or Google Play.

Check the date - Every year, Spoons holds its Tax Equality Day to highlight the benefits of a permanently reduced tax bill for the pub industry.

It usually takes place in September, and last year it fell on Thursday, September 14.

As well as its 12-day Real Ale Festival every Autumn, Wetherspoons also holds a Spring Festival.

The price of a small breakfast will be reduced at 650 J D Wetherspoon pubs from today, Wednesday 4 September.

The deal only applies to the Wetherspoon small breakfast, which includes a fried egg, bacon, Lincolnshire sausage, baked beans and hash brown (or potato scone in Scottish pubs).

Prices vary across the pub giant's estate, but the breakfast would normally set customers back £4.45, meaning a saving of at least 32%.

Punters will be able to add a Lavazza coffee or Twinings tea, as well as free refills, to their breakfast order for an extra £1.56.

Hungry customers can also add extras to the breakfast including black pudding, mushrooms, toast and tomatoes.

On top of the 650 pubs offering the £2.99 or less offer, a further 129 will offer the small breakfast for £3.99.

The offer does not apply to pubs at airports, Liverpool Street, Victoria, Waterloo or St Pancras stations or those in the Republic of Ireland.
