McDonald’s Monopoly 2024 updates: Menu items with Monopoly stickers revealed

MCDONALD'S Monopoly has returned and fans will be scrambling to collect stickers to claim VIP prizes.

The annual game is very popular among fast-food fans and coincides with a shake-up in the McDonald's menu. But not all menu items will have the Monopoly stickers.

Players who take part in the game can collect stickers from their food packaging that represent train stations or colour co-ordinated road names - much like the classic game.

Among the top prizes this year is £100,000 in cash for five winners and there will be 2,000 "gold cards", which give you a free Maccies meal a week for a year.

Other big prizes include a Mini electric car, a £2k Jet2holiday and a Merlin annual pass, which grants free access to some of Britain's biggest attractions.

As in previous years, the competition will run for six weeks, and this year ends on October 15.

How to boost your chances of winning?

To increase your chances of winning, make sure you order items that have the most amount of game pieces.

Some food and drinks have up to three game pieces, while others have two.

For instance, fries come with only two game pieces in a meal.

However, the sides of salad, veg or fruit bag can give you three pieces.

Bonus “digital peel” to boost your chances

If you have a Monopoly property sticker, you can scan it on the McDonald’s app to get a bonus “digital peel”.

This will allow you to play more and increase your chances of winning.

However, you can only upload 24 digital peel entries per day.

How to redeem your prize?

Instant win food prizes can be redeemed at any McDonald’s branch by handing over your token to a member of staff when you order.

If you’ve got a winning token or code, you may need to provide some of your personal details to be able to redeem it, such as your date of birth, email address and phone number.

You will then be asked to choose how you want to receive your winnings, which will be either via email or delivery.

Play at quiet times to increase your chances

Game pieces come with a code to play games on the app, but you might want to avoid lunch and dinner time.

There are two cash prizes up for grabs per minute and non-cash prizes are “allocated across the hours in that day at random subject to due weighting to take account of anticipated rates of game-play at different times of the day” according to the rules.

In other words, the more people playing the less chance there is to win, so play at less busy times.

How does McDonald’s Monopoly work?

When you purchase a food or drink item, you can find stickers with either an “instant win” or a property.

The “instant win” stickers can be exchanged for free food.

The property sticker can help you bag the bigger prizes if you collect a full set in the same colour.

Mr Monopoly Bonus Reward

The fast food giant has introduced the Mr. Monopoly Bonus Reward, which will offer customers the chance to earn MyMcDonald’s Rewards points redeemable towards food items.

Whenever you collect 30 physical game pieces and enter their property codes into the app, you will be awarded 1,500 MyMcDonald’s Rewards points.

Bank or Swap Peel

Customers have the opportunity to trade in their peels for another ‘more frequently found property’ or swap it for an entry into the £100k prize draw.

The choice is yours.

World's Oldest McDonald's branch

The oldest existing McDonald’s restaurant today is a drive-up hamburger stand in Downey, California.

It was the third McDonald’s restaurant to open, on August 18, 1953.

The branch still has the iconic Golden Arches design, maintaining its original appearance.

Who owns McDonald's?

Since 1955, McDonald's has been owned by Kroc, set up by Ray Kroc, who went into business with the McDonald brothers.

In 1961, Kroc bought out the McDonald brothers, who founded the franchise, for £2million.

Today, McDonald's is owned by many shareholders with 70% of the company's owners being institutional investors.

According to CNN Business reports, individual shareholders make up only about 0.31%.

The corporation has been under the leadership of Chris Kempczinski, who serves as a CEO and chairman, since 2019.

Does the original McDonald's still exist?

The very first McDonald’s restaurant was opened in San Bernardino, California, in May 1940.

It does not exist anymore. It was demolished in 1972 – but part of the original famous "Golden Arches" sign, introduced at the site in 1953, still exists.

An independent McDonald’s museum was opened on the San Bernardino site in 1998.

How much does a McDonald's franchise cost?

There are 36,000 McDonald's restaurants in more than 100 countries with the vast majority being franchise operations.

Buying into one, or building an entirely new store, is a massive emotional and financial commitment.

But opening one could lead to mouth-watering returns - between £1.5million and £4.3million a year, according to McDonald's.

To invest in a McDonald's franchise, you'll need about 25% of unencumbered funds, or roughly £100,000.

The remaining 75% can be funded by a bank, and franchises may use banks which McDonald's has a relationship with that offer competitive rates.

McDonald's Monopoly: Unclaimed prizes

In 2018, out of 25million instant food prizes in the UK, only 8million prizes were claimed.

Out of 20 Mini Coopers, just six found their way to the lucky owners.

This year, customers have until October 29th to claim their prizes.

Who founded McDonald's?

McDonald's was founded by the McDonald brothers, Richard (Dick) and Maurice (Mac).

At the same time as founding McDonald's, the two brothers also created the "Speedie Service System".

The idea for the restaurant came to them in 1937 after they opened a hot dog stand in California, USA, which proved a massive hit with customers.

In 1940, they decided to branch out and open a bigger hot dog stand at a different California site to entice more people.

It proved successful and soon the McDonald brothers adapted the business to focus on their most popular items: hamburgers, milkshakes and French fries.

A 12-digit code will be printed on it and then you just have to enter the McDonald's "Food for Thought" website and fill out a quick survey about your recent trip. You'll then receive a five digit code which is your voucher for the £2.99 offer.

McDonald's stops breakfast and starts its normal menu at 11am each day.

Branches continue serving burgers, chicken nuggets and the rest of the normal menu right through until closing time, which will vary depending on your restaurant's opening times.

Food on the normal menu and breakfast menu can't be cooked at the same time.

Breakfast food is cooked slightly differently and at varying temperatures to burgers and fries and there's not enough space to do both menus at once in the kitchens.
