NEED artistic inspiration to get you through the last week of the school holidays?
Open your fridge and cupboards and get food for thought. Using fruit, veg and other edibles, you can enjoy a day of messy play.
SPUD FUN: For classic potato printing, cut a potato in half lengthwise and press a cook- ie cutter into one half.
Cut off a thick chunk of potato from around the cutter and remove the cutter, leaving the shape behind.
Bold designs like hearts and stars work especially well. Press the shape into poster paint and stamp on to paper. It’s great for birthday cards.
ZEST IN CLASS: Gather fruits and vegetables for interesting shapes to print.

Cut them in half to reveal the spokes of citrus fruits, the knobbly, flower-shaped end of a corn cob or the brain-like lines of half a cabbage.
Put coloured poster paints on separate plates, then dip in your fruit or vegetables and print them on paper.
PENNE FOR YOUR THOUGHTS: You can also use pasta to get kids painting.
Put dried pasta like fusilli or penne in a freezer bag and add squirts of poster paint.

Get little hands to squish and shake the bag until the paint completely covers the pasta, then lay it out on a lined baking tray to dry.
Wash out the bag and repeat the process with different coloured paint.
You can make pictures with the pasta or press it into play dough. Or swirl cooked, cooled spaghetti through coloured paints, and then on to paper.
BERRY GOOD FUN: You can also make paints. Squish blackberries and blueberries with a dash of water for pinks and purples. Mix paprika or turmeric with liquid for yellow tones.
Submerging a tea bag or two in a little water will soon brew a strong brown paint.
