CROSS EVERYTHING: Try to open windows on opposite sides of your home to create a cross breeze.
This helps to circulate air and cool down your living space.
Make sure to do this in the early morning or late evening when the air outside is cooler.
SUN SHIELD: Use curtains or blinds to block direct sunlight during the hottest part of the day.
Reflective window film or shades can also help keep your home cooler.
Start by keeping your curtains drawn in rooms that get a lot of sun, and consider investing in blackout curtains for the maximum cooling effect.
BATHER SAVER: Lower the water temperature for your shower or bath to beat the heat.
If you want to save more water, soak your feet in a bucket or washing-up bowl of cold water for a quick cooldown, or run cold water on your wrists to beat the heat.
TOWEL TREAT: Wet a towel with cold water and place it on your neck, forehead, or wrists.
It’s a good way to quickly lower your temperature and a great idea after exercise.
You can also keep a few damp towels in the fridge for an extra icy treat when the heat becomes too much.
Alternatively, pack a cool bag of iced wet towels to use as handy wet wipes at your next picnic.
SLEEP EASY: Swap your winter duvet for a lighter summer alternative, or just use a breathable cotton sheet to cover up at night, as these will keep you cool when it’s too hot.
