The limited-edition Gold Digestives are a perfect blend of the nostalgic 80s Gold bar and the classic Digestive biscuit.

The highly-anticipated treat will be hitting shelves in Sainsbury's from July 7 followed by Tesco, Waitrose, Co-Op, Asda, Morrisons and more soon after.

The latest addition to McVitie's range promises to offer "an indulgent little pick-me-up that will make you feel like you've hit the jackpot with every bite".

Gold Digestives join a family of flavours that already includes Milk, Dark, and White Chocolate - which was introduced last summer.

The original Digestive was created in 1839 by two Scottish doctors to aid digestion.

The recipe was later improved by Sir Alexander Grant and manufactured by McVitie's in 1892.

It quickly became the best-selling biscuit in the UK and synonymous with tea time snack for most Brits.

Now, as the Milk Chocolate Digestive approaches its 100th anniversary, biscuit fans nationwide can enjoy a genuinely unique taste experience.

McVitie’s reinvents classic treat with launch of 3 limited-edition ‘nostalgic’ flavours

By Juliana Cruz Lima

SWEET tooths are in for a treat after a snacks giant reinvented two of its classic products with a nostalgic twist.

McVitie’s has announced the release of limited-edition Cake Bars and Iced Gems Candy Floss, which are set to be hitting supermarket shelves in the coming weeks.

The brand-new Cake Bars are available in two tantalising and nostalgic flavours – Eton Mess and Lemon Meringue.

Sweet tooths eager to go down memory lane can indulge in the Eton Mess Cake Bar, a strawberry-flavoured cake bar filled with light and fluffy cream, crunchy meringue pieces and a decadent milk chocolate coating.

Those wanting a refreshing burst of citrus can go for the Lemon Meringue Cake Bar, featuring a zingy lemon sponge filled with zesty lemon cream, as well as crisp meringue swirls and sugar pearls, coated in rich milk chocolate.

Both flavours come in packs of five, each individually wrapped, making them the perfect on the go snack.

McVitie’s is also releasing limited-edition Iced Gems Candy Floss flavour in a playful twist on a classic family favourite.

Miniature crisp, crunchy biscuits are topped with a swirl of fluffy cotton candy sweetness in a playful reinvention of the beloved and classic flavour.

The McVitie's Cake Bars will be available in UK supermarkets from March 18.

The Iced Gems Candy Floss will hit Iceland shelves from March 25, with other supermarkets to follow from April.

Adam Wolf, marketing director at McVitie's said: "We’re very excited to introduce two new additions to the McVitie’s family that are perfect for summer snacking.

"We know our consumers love classic, nostalgic flavours, so we’ve created these new products with that front of mind.

"They’re the perfect sweet treat to enjoy with friends and family alike."

It comes as McVitie's has rolled out a NEW Jaffa Cake flavour inspired by a retro sweet favourite - but fans are divided.

The McVitie's iconic dark chocolate-covered sponge filled with a unique twist is already available at Asda, and will be arriving in other supermarkets in July and August.

Fans have also been rushing to fill their baskets with "game charger" McVitie's goodies that hold a delicious chocolate twist.

Earlier this year, the company has given fans a taste of nostalgia with a new limited-edition snack which brings a playful twist on a classic family favourite.

Biscuit fans have also had mixed reviews over a re-released McVitie's treat - with some slamming it as "disappointing".

But others were devastated to find the biccy had already raced off the shelves as it returned with a new recipe after being discontinued almost 20 years ago.

How to bag a bargain

SUN Savers Editor Lana Clements explains how to find a cut-price item and bag a bargain…

Sign up to loyalty schemes of the brands that you regularly shop with.

Big names regularly offer discounts or special lower prices for members, among other perks.

Sales are when you can pick up a real steal.

Retailers usually have periodic promotions that tie into payday at the end of the month or Bank Holiday weekends, so keep a lookout and shop when these deals are on.

Sign up to mailing lists and you’ll also be first to know of special offers. It can be worth following retailers on social media too.

When buying online, always do a search for money off codes or vouchers that you can use  and  are just two sites that round up promotions by retailer.

Scanner apps are useful to have on your phone.  app has a scanner that you can use to compare prices on branded items when out shopping.

Bargain hunters can also use B&M’s scanner in the app to find discounts in-store before staff have marked them out.

And always check if you can get cashback before paying which in effect means you’ll get some of your money back or a discount on the item.
