Greggs closed updates — Multiple stores forced to shut after ‘IT glitch’ as customers left furious
GREGGS customers have been left furious this morning after an "IT glitch" forced multiple stores to close.
Dozens of customers have taken to X, formerly Twitter, to share their shock this morning after discovering the Greggs store closures.
Pastry lovers across the country - including in Newcastle, Westminster, Cardiff - have been up in arms this morning.
One person wrote: "Why are all the Greggs closed?"
A statement from Greggs said: "We are currently experiencing issues accepting payments in our shops." It added: "We are working to resolve this as soon as possible."

Issues now resolved
Greggs have now stated that issues have been resolved.
In a statement they said: "We have now resolved the technical issue that affected tills in some of our shops earlier this morning.
"The majority of shops affected are now able to take card and cash payments again and we expect the issue to be fully resolved shortly.
"We apologise for the inconvenience this may have caused to our customers."
Shops close up
One store in Fargate had a sign on the windows that read: "Our tills are down and we don't know when they will be fixed.
"We are very sorry for the inconvenience."
A Sheffield store had a makeshift sign up, too.
It said: "Oh crumbs.
"We currently have an issue with out tills which means we can't take cash or card payments right now.
"Our IT colleagues are working hard to get the issue sorted as soon as they can.
"We're really sorry for any inconvenience caused."
Customers left shocked
Customers have opened up about the odd experience they'd had as they tried to nab their pastry and coffee.
One person: "Any reason why the Burlington street branch in chesterfield is closed this morning?
"Staff are inside but shutters down and no signs of opening and no sign displayed to explain why?!"
Another said: "Weird experience in Greggs Lewisham just now.
"System down, so they couldn't take a card payment. They wouldn't take cash either.
"Bizarrely, though, I was told I could still order via Uber. Hello? I'm in the shop in front of you! Not impressed."

Greggs is yet to confirm whether this is a nationwide issue.
However, customers across the UK have reported closures of their local stores.
One customers asked: "Hey, why are all the greggs stores shut in Cardiff with temporarily closed signs on, but staff are inside baking? What time will they be open today?"
A Londoner also said: "Greggs in Westminster closed. Problem with tills."

Greggs currently have over 2,000 stores across the UK.
It is not currently known how many of the branches have been affected by today's "IT glitch".
