THE race for the cheapest chocolate Easter eggs in stores is on and a new player has entered the game.
While other supermarkets have already launched a range of discounts on Easter eggs in recent weeks, new choc treats have now landed at Aldi - including three popular classics that trump other shops on price.
Aldi currently has the cheapest offer for Cadbury creme eggs, which are priced at £2.25 for a 200g box.
The box contains five of the 40g eggs which have been around for more than 50 years.
Prices for the treats start at £2.50 in stores like Tesco or Asda, but in Co-op, they are even more expensive at £2.85.
The discount supermarket also has the best deal on the large Celebrations Easter egg with the price set at £2.99.
The hollow milk chocolate eggs come with an assortment of Celebrations treats like Milky Bar and Twix.
Asda narrowly missed the top place spot for the cheapest deal on this one as the same Celebrations egg is just 1p at £3.00 in its stores.
But the prices for the Easter egg go up to £3.25 in Sainsurys and £3.50 in Iceland.
Aldi also has the best deals on Galaxy creamy truffles, they are little truffle-filled chocolate eggs with delicious smooth Galaxy chocolate and creamy truffle centre and you get about 74g per bag.

At the moment Aldi has the Easter treats priced at £1.25, while most other retailers have them priced at £1.35.
Surprisingly Waitrose also had the Galaxy truffles at the same price but they have unfortunately sold out.
These deals don't have an expiry date so they will be available while stocks last.
Aldi doesn't do delivery so you will need to head into store to get these bargains.
You can find your nearest store by using the Aldi store locator tool on its website.
Despite these bargains, it looks like Asda is the supermarket to beat at least until this weekend, with a whole range of Easter eggs priced at just 60p.
The retailer has slashed its usual £1.25 price to less than half but shoppers have until March 10 to nab the chocolates as they will go back up to their original price.
Here’s the full list of Easter eggs included in the offer:
- Cadbury Mini Eggs 97g
- Kit Kat Chunky Egg 126g
- Bluey Milk Chocolate Easter Egg and Bar 62g
- Cadbury White Buttons Egg 98g
- Paw Patrol Milk Chocolate Easter Egg and Bar 62g
- Cadbury Dairy Milk Buttons Chocolate Easter Egg, 98g
- Cadbury Dairy Milk Caramel Nibbles 96g
- Cadbury Dairy Milk Freddo 96g
- Milkybar White Chocolate Egg, 65g
- Smarties egg 119g
- Peppa Pig Milk Chocolate Easter Egg and Bar, 62g
- Maltesers Milk Chocolate Medium Easter Egg, 127g
The bargain eggs will only be available in select stores so you may need to go to a few different shops to find the egg you want.
Aldi does sell some of these branded Eatser eggs too like Cadbury's mini eggs, Cadbruy's twirl and Smarties.
But these are all prices at £1.25 more than double the current deal in Asda.
The closer it gets to Easter the more likely it is that other retailers will start competing to be the cheapest in a bid to get your cash and prices are changing daily.
You can use shopping comparison tools such as Google Shopping and Trolley.co.uk to compare the cost of items across different retailers.
Also, remember that there is a chance you can get a different offer in-store to what is online so keep your eyes peeled.

How to save money in Aldi
It's worth keeping an eye out for the retailer's red stickers on products - staff add them when something has been reduced in price.
But it can catch some shoppers out as most supermarket chains add yellow stickers to reduced items.
Meanwhile, take super saver Tom Church's advice and shop at the German discounter at 10am on a Wednesday.
This is when staff restock their regular items and you'll have the best selection of products to choose from.
Aldi also puts out a Special buys leaflet which tells you items that will be on sale every week.
It's worth signing up for the Aldi newsletter and following them so on social media.
Also every two weeks Aldi picks six fruits and vegetables and reduces them to a silly low price
