Five budget-friendly costume ideas for your children on World Book Day
PANICKED parents will be racking their brains to come up with costume ideas for World Book Day on Thursday.
But despair not, as help is at hand. Read up on these tips for easy, affordable outfits for your children.
WIZARDING GENIUS: Harry Potter or Hermione Granger are always popular fancy dress choices for World Book Day.
Raid your child’s ward-robe for a white shirt and black trousers (Harry) or black skirt (Hermione), then search the garden for a twig to deploy as a makeshift wand.
If you have pipe cleaners in your craft box, you can fashion Harry’s iconic glasses — and use a lip pencil or felt tip to draw on his lightning-bolt scar.
WHERE’S WALLY?: Dressing up as the elusive puzzle books favourite is simple as long as you can find a red and white striped T-shirt. Ideally you already have one — but, if not, pick one up from Sainsbury’s for £7.

Add a bobble hat and cut out a pair of glasses from cardboard or pop out the lenses from a pair of cheap sunglasses you have at home.
MATILDA: For this beloved Roald Dahl character, a simple blue dress paired with a cardigan and knee-high socks will do the trick, nice and easy. Top it all off in style with a bundle of books tied together with ribbon.
WIMPY KID: Greg Heffley costumes are so easy. A white T-shirt and black shorts are all you need — maybe you could even use your child’s PE kit.
And head to wimpykidclub.co.uk/kids-downloads to print off a free Wimpy Kid mask template — just cut out the eye holes and you’re done.

MR MEN OR LITTLE MISS: Mr Bump is one of the quickest outfits to assemble. Find a blue T-shirt and trousers and wrap one bandage around your child’s middle and another around their head. For Little Miss Sunshine, a yellow top and leggings is all you need. Add double plaits and dot red freckles on your child’s face.
