‘Death of the high street bank’ as 56 branches to close in March including NatWest with 10 shutting in DAYS
We explain what you can do if your local branch is closing
A TOTAL of 56 bank branches will be leaving the high street for good in March.
In the coming weeks, several banks including NatWest and Barclays will be pulling the shutters down on sites across the country.

Just last month Barclays shut 15 branches, Lloyds closed down four and (BoS) pulled the shutters down on three locations.
Halifax, NatWest and Ulster Bank also shut up shop in several locations meaning a total of 42 bank branches closed for good in February.
LINK is the UK's largest cash machine network and it keeps track of any planned branch closures.
According to its data, another 56 branches are set to close down in March.

Ten branches will close over the next week including locations of Barclays, NatWest and Ulster Bank, with the rest to follow.
It comes after hundreds of bank and building society branches closed their doors for good last year.
More customers are turning to online banking to manage their money meaning that physical branches are not getting as many customers through the door.
With the drop in footfall banks and building societies are taking the opportunity to close town centre branches and cut down on costs.

However many locals affected by the closures are calling it a "bad decision" by the banks and taking to social media to vent.
One person said: "This really is the death of the high street bank."
Another called the closure of the Barclays Haverford West branch, in January a "devastating blow."
A third exlaimed: "More closures?!!!"

What to do if your local bank branch closes
It can be a scary thought for those who still rely on their local bank branch to hear that it is closing down.
Eldery people who do not have access to the internet and people who live in rural areas can be faced with a big problem.
However, if your local branch is set to close soon, or has done recently there are some options open to you.
It is possible to carry out most basic banking tasks at your local Post Office.
However, they will not be able to help you when it comes to applying for a loan or opening a new bank account, for those services you will still need to contact your bank directly.
If you are unsure where your nearest Post Office branch is, you can use the locator tool on its website.
Just put your postcode in and you should be able to find out where the closest one to you is.
Since the reduction of high street branches, many banks have started to offer a mobile banking service.
This is where a bus comes to your are and offers services that you used to get from your local branch.
You should check with your banking provider to see if they offer this service and what day of the week it is available,

Other banks also use buildings such as village halls or libraries too, so it is worth checking with them to see what they offer.
