YOU can’t have Easter without mini eggs - the delectable little treats are a fan favourite and chocolate lovers go crazy every time they hit the shelves.
The eggs hold delicious Cadbury milk chocolate wrapped in a crunchy, speckled sugar shell.
But many supermarkets have tried their hands at recreating the mini eggs hype with their own dupes.
So we scoured the supermarket shop shelves to find the closest available dupe for the best price - here are the results.
Cadbury original mini eggs
- £1.30, 80g - Tesco
- Price per 100g: £1.88
There isn’t anything quite like the traditional Cadbury chocolate covered in a crunchy speckled sugar shell.

Cadbury’s chocolate is lush and smooth and it’s safe to say they're hard to beat… and hard to share.
Pricewise these cost more than any of the other mini eggs but that can be overlooked for such a great taste.
We picked up our bag in Tesco as the mini eggs are currently £1.30 with a Clubcard and £1.50 without.
We’ve put together a helpful list of the cheapest places to buy mini eggs this week.

Prices on these are always changing during the Easter season, so it’s worth keeping an eye on stores for a good deal.
And if an 80g size pack of these just isn’t enough Waitrose is selling a Cadbury Chocolate Mini Eggs 1kg giant sharing bag for £12.50.
They’ve also been spotted in B&M for even cheaper at £12.

M&S speckled eggs
- £1.25, 90g - M&S
- Price per 100g: £1.39
I was very surprised by the M&S speckled chocolate eggs.
Of all the mini eggs we found they actually hold the biggest weight in grams but bigger isn’t always better.
They are slightly bigger than Cadbury’s mini eggs which means quite a lot of dense chocolate in your mouth.
The outer shell is quite hard which means a less satisfying crunch, but the chocolate is still lovely and rich once you bite into it.
I think these are similar to the Cadbury originals but not close enough to dupe me.
These are also on the pricey side at just 5p more than Cadbury's but you do get a little more for your money.

Morrisons speckled eggs
- £1.00, 80g - Morrisons
- Price per 100g: £1.25
When I tested the Morrisons dupe blindfolded, I could hardly tell the difference between this one and the original Cadbury’s.
The shell is just a bit thicker than Cadbury’s but still offers a nice crunch.
The chocolate is what lets the treats down the most, but the shells provide a nice sugary flavour so you don’t notice as much.
Pricewise these are not bad at all setting you back just £1 which is one of the cheapest we tried.

Lidl Mister choc mini eggs
The Lidl chocolate mini eggs were the underdogs of this chocolate showdown.
It was tough to taste the difference between this and the Cadbury Original.
The shell is what gave it away - it’s slightly harder than Cadbury’s melt-in-the-mouth coating.
However, this mini had a really nice aftertaste but the chocolate wasn't as rich as I’d hoped for.
Lidl hasn't yet set the price on the mini eggs and can't confirm when it'll be in stores, but shoppers should keep their eyes peeled.
- Taste: 7/10
- Mini egg similarity: 7/10
- Price: Not yet confirmed
- Total: 14/20 excluding price points
Aldi Dairyfine mini choc eggs
- 99p, 80g - Aldi
- Price per 100g: £1.24
I’m sorry to say but I was very disappointed by the Aldi dupe and could tell these weren't the real mini eggs from the get-go.
The outer shell was pretty standard, I would even go as far as to say lacking in crunch.
But the biggest letdown was the chocolate, it had almost an earth taste to it that wasn’t addictive at all.
Maybe these would work well in some brownies or a cake where the mini eggs aren’t meant to be the star of the show.
Obviously, you can’t beat the price, at 99p these were the cheapest eggs that we found.
- Taste: 2/10
- Mini egg similarity: 3/10
- Price rating: 8/10
