Five easy ways to get your kids involved in sports on a budget
PLAYING sport can help kids improve their confidence and health, as well as keeping them away from screens.
And weekly sessions do not have to cost you a fortune.
Here’s how to get your children active on a budget . . .
FITNESS CLASSES: Healthcare charity Nuffield Health runs free weekly fitness classes for girls aged 11-16.
Its Move Together sessions are designed to build strength and confidence and are suitable for all abilities.
Nuffield Health operates more than 100 centres across the UK. Find your nearest class at nuffieldhealth.com/movetogether.

FUN RUN: Junior Parkrun is a free community event that takes place at almost 500 locations across the country on Sunday mornings.
A route of 2k is marked out and anyone aged between four and 14 can take part.
Participants are given as long as they need to complete the course. They get to know their time and can try to beat it each week.
Register for free and find you nearest event at parkrun.org.uk.

SWIM SESSIONS: Many councils run free lessons or sessions for children, so it is worth checking what’s on near you. Have a look on your council’s website.
TENNIS TIME: Charity Tennis For Free runs sessions for anyone wanting to pick up a racket. Some sessions are for ages 12-plus, but there are also dedicated family times.
Search for your nearest group at tennisforfree.com/sites.
INTO GEAR: It is not just the sports activities that can be pricey. Getting the right equipment for kids to play can cost an arm and a leg.
To help ease costs, Sports Direct has launched a discount scheme, giving up to 70 per cent off. See sportsdirect.com/kids-essential-equipment.
