‘Don’t know how I managed without it’ say Asda shoppers rushing to buy £7 energy-saving item for drying clothes quicker
It's the cheapest we have seen on the market
ASDA shoppers can’t get enough of an energy-saving gadget selling for just £7 – and some “don’t know how” they managed without one.
The cold weather might be behind us for now and energy bills set to fall in April, but you should always look to save money where possible.
And Asda shoppers looking to cut costs have been rushing out to buy a heated airer dryer cover for just £7.
The nifty devices work by locking in any heat produced by the airer, drying your clothes quicker and more evenly.
The Asda cover is big enough for a three-tier heated airer, coming in at 70cm wide, 73cm deep and 147cm in height.
There’s also a 100-day warranty in case there’s any issues after purchase.
Posting on the Asda website about the product, one shopper said: “Don’t know how I managed without it!
“Great price too and collection from Asda was easy! Very happy with my purchase!”
A second said: “Good value for money, does what it says it will,” while a third added: “This is a great item to use.”
Anyone looking to snap up one of the airer covers can click and collect from their local Asda branch for free.
You can find your nearest store by using the retailer’s branch locator tool on its website.
Meanwhile, standard home delivery costs £3.50 while next day and named delivery is £5.
Of course, you should always shop around when buying anything like this as you might find it cheaper at another retailer.
You can use websites like Price Spy, Price Runner and Trolley to compare prices on thousands of products.
Meanwhile, the Google Shopping tab is a quick way of scanning the internet to see how much you can get a certain product or item for.
We had a quick look online to see if there is a cheaper alternative to Asda’s heated airer cover, but couldn’t find any.
The Range is selling one which is similar in size to Asda’s for £7.99 – 99p more expensive. Home delivery will also cost you from £3.95.
After that, the cheapest we found is a Minky model on Amazon for £16, with a £4.99 delivery charge.
How else to save money on energy bills
Heated airer covers are just one way of saving money on your energy bills.
You can further cut costs by opting for a number of other gadgets such as heated throws, electric blankets and portable heaters.
Draught excluders can save you around £50 a year by stopping warm air escaping outside too.
Meanwhile, dialling down your thermostat by one or two degrees can save you hundreds of pounds a year.
Plus, having your heating on for just a few hours a day instead of constantly on a low temperature will save you cash.
And you could get discounts on your household bills worth over £3,600 a year, including on council tax.
You might be able to get direct support to cover energy bills too.
The Household Support Fund is one option. It is worth £842million and has been shared between councils in England.
They then decide how to distribute their portion.
But what you are entitled to varies on where you live as each local authority sets its own eligibility criteria.
In the vast majority of cases, you will qualify if you are on benefits or a low income, or struggling financially.
You should approach your council to see if any help is on offer. You can find what council area you fall under by using the Government’s council locator tool online.
You might also be able to claim a free grant from your energy firm if you’re struggling to make payments.
British Gas, Octopus Energy and EDF are some of the major companies that offer help.
