‘Only a matter of time’ cry fans as major fast food chain with more than 100 sites abruptly closes drive-thru

It's not the only restaurant chain that's shutting branches

A fast food chain with more than 100 sites has abruptly closed a branch leaving fans devastated.

The Sun approached Taco Bell to confirm the date that the branch closed and for comment.

A notice to customers appeared on the door informing them of the closure, according to local new reports.

It read: "Permanently closed. Your closest Taco Bell is Aberdeen Union Street and also for delivery on Just Eat and Uber Eats."

The branch has also been removed from the Taco Bell store locator and is no longer an option for takeaway on Just East or Uber Eats.

Shoppers have reacted online to the news that the store has closed.

One Facebook user tagged their friends in the news who replied saying "sad times".

Another added: "I guess they didn’t get enough footfall. What a waste of time."

A third simply wrote: "Noooooo."

While a fourth added: "Was only a matter of time."

Mexican fast-food chain Taco Bell has more than 135 restaurants across the UK, including drive-thrus.

It's the latest fast-food chain to announce a closure this year.

Byron Burger closed its restaurant in George Street, Oxford at the end of October.

Byron collapsed back in January and announced the immediate closure of nine sites.

The business was sold to Tristar Foods and 12 restaurants were transferred to the new company, saving 365 jobs.

However, Byron's new owners closed its Ipswitch branch on July 21, bringing the total number of restaurants down to 11.

The hospitality sector as a whole has been struggling to bounce back after the pandemic, only to be hit with soaring energy bills and inflation.

Some well-known retailers have shut a handful of branches, while others have disappeared from the high street for good.

Italian dining chain Prezzo revealed plans to shut 46 restaurants back in April as a result of soaring energy and food costs, putting 810 jobs at risk.

TRG, which owned Frankie & Benny's, Chiquito and Wagamama, revealed that it would shut down around 40 sites by April 2024.

But it's not all bad news as Honest Burger is looking to open a new chain of cut-price fast food restaurants.

The chain is looking to rival Five Guys and Shake Shack, according to The Times, with the first branch set to open in central London early next year.
