Sainsbury's has launched a meal deal to help struggling families with the Christmas dinner.

The meal includes a fresh turkey, vegetables, roast trimmings of pigs in blankets, stuffing, gravy and a fruit sherry trifle.

Customers can snap up the bargain diner for just £19.41 in total - and it can feed six people.

This year bosses have also introduced a veggie option - which can feed six for less than £17.

The cart includes the Plant Pioneers Meat Free Wellington as a replacement of the traditional turkey and vegetarian trimmings.

It works out at £3.23 a head and all you need is your Nectar Card to unlock the deal online or in store.

This year all proceeds from the selected Sainsbury’s seasonal vegetables will be donated to the Nourish the Nation programme in partnership with Comic Relief.

Simon Roberts, chief executive of Sainsbury’s, said: “We’re delighted to announce our best value Christmas roast ever. Our customers are at the heart of every decision we make and we’re doing all we can to make the festive season as affordable and enjoyable as possible.

"We’re helping customers celebrate this year with a full Christmas roast that can feed six for less than £4 per person and vegetarian alternatives available for the first time, feeding six for less than £17, both with Nectar Prices.

"By investing in low prices this December, we’re proud to be able to offer the same prices as last year, if not cheaper, on all products in Sainsbury’s festive roast.”

Shoppers can pick up each of the items from December 19 until Christmas Eve.

It comes as Sainsbury's has brought back a popular Nectar card offer in the run-up to Christmas - but it's not good news for all shoppers.

The offer previously allowed customers to swap their points for vouchers worth twice the usual amount.

This year, a version of the popular offer has come back letting shoppers double up their Nectar points for an in-store voucher.

How does the Nectar card scheme work?

Under the Nectar card scheme, customers collect points when buying certain products or goods, in-store and online.

You receive one loyalty point for every £1 spent.

You also get one point for every £1 spent on fuel bought at Sainsbury's petrol stations and can pick up points at hundreds of partners as well, including Esso and eBay.

You can register and download an e-Nectar Card by downloading the app on your smartphone.

You then swipe it every time you shop and the points are added to your account, which can be used to get money off future purchases.

Each point is effectively worth 0.5p, meaning you need 500 points to get £2.50 off.
