Sian said: "I've heard about 'Sunday peak save'. I'm a British Gas customer, but they've never contacted me about it.

"On my account they require me to register for it. Why is it not automatically done?"

The host responded by explaining that "Sunday peak" save is a "optional tariff", and therefore you have to opt in to gain the benefits.

He continued: "What that tariff does is from eleven in the morning until four o'clock on a Sunday you get half priced electricity.

"But you can only get it if you're a smart meter customer and your smart meter is one that gives meter readings every 30 minutes."

He added it's only on until the end of December - but if you are a British Gas customer it's at the same rate of the price cap and you get five hours of half priced electricity.

Brits can then save their washing, drying and other energy-consuming activities to between eleven and four on a Sunday.

Martin also recently revealed a hidden switch inside fridges that could save you hundreds of pounds on your energy bills.

The Money Saving Expert took to his live show to give viewers "a few tips to get your house in order" this winter.

He also gave a warning to to every Brit with a bank account over a "scourge on society" - which costs them £1,000s.
