Five tips for keeping your costs on track – and knowing the compo you can claim
THERE are millions of pounds in unclaimed refunds that many of us miss out on, so it is vital you know your rights.
Whether it is claiming back travel costs when plans go awry or securing clothing refunds, get what you’re owed.
Here’s how . . .
CLOTHING REFUNDS: Always check T&Cs if buying online.
Many refund policies have changed and customers could be out of pocket, with H&M recently saying non-members will need to pay a £1.99 fee to return online items.
Keep the tags on until you actually wear your item (in case you change your mind at the last minute).
KEEP YOUR RECEIPTS: It’s the simplest way to ensure you will be entitled to a refund should you no longer need something.
One tip is to take a snap of your paper receipts, as many websites now require a photo of them to be uploaded.
FOOD SHOP: Doing the big shop online?
Make sure to pull up your online list when the food arrives and tick off each item as you take it out of the baskets.
With the items picked at speed, often there are errors or more expensive replacements that can end up in your shop.
Give back any wrong items to the driver so you can get your refund.
TRAIN TRAVEL: Getting a train recently has been somewhat chaotic.
But with strikes and delays on many networks, head to the website of the rail network to check the details.
For example, South Western Railway offers delay repay claims for trains that are late by as little as 15 minutes.
VACATION REMINDER: If you’ve been away recently, check your travel insurance policy carefully.
Often there are small claims you can make that you aren’t aware of.
This could be for something relatively small, such as delayed luggage, or if you’re on a cruise, bad weather that causes you to miss a port on your trip.
These scenarios could mean you can claim big compensation.
