IF you’ve got your eye on something, the price-tracking website camelcamelcamel.com will show you what it’s previously sold for on the site so you can check whether this week’s discounts are as good as they seem.
Or make sure to check comparison sites such as Idealo.co.uk,
which will show you whether the price on Amazon is cheaper than other shops or online retailers.
WHAT TO BUY
AMAZON’S OWN PRODUCTS
IF you’ve had your eye on a Kindle, Echo, Fire tablet or Ring video doorbell, you’ll likely see some big discounts on these and other Amazon branded tech during the Prime Big Deals Days.
Natalie Warb from voucher site couponbirds.com says: “Amazon, as a retailer, has complete control over their product pricing, usually leading to massive discounts during their sales.”

Last year, shoppers could get a Kindle for £59.99 – a 30 per cent drop from its £84 price the month before and a saving of £24.01, according to data from Idealo.
WHAT TO AVOID
TVs AND GAMES CONSOLES
THERE are likely to be tempting offers on big tech items during the shopping event.
However, better deals could be available when other brands slash their prices next month as part of the annual Black Friday sales in November.
Anita Naik from vouchercodes.co.uk says: “With TVs and gaming consoles, it’s better to hold off for now.”
Idealo’s data found that the LG OLEDA26LA TV was £647.99 on last year’s Prime Day, up from £599 a month earlier.
BIG KITCHEN APPLIANCES
IF you need a new fridge or other kitchen gadgets, with the exception of air fryers, you’re better off looking at other times of the year, according to Katy Phillips from price comparison site Idealo.
She says: “Even if they’re on promotion, fridges tend to be more expensive on Prime Day than at other times of the year.
“If you’re looking to upgrade big appliances such as this, the New Year sales are probably a better time.
“The same can be said for some smaller kitchen appliances such as food processors and coffee machines.
“Our data shows these were cheaper in the month before Prime Day last year.”
Idealo data showed that last year the Krups Nespresso Inissia was £99.99 on Prime Day – but just £82 a month before.
EVERYDAY ESSENTIALS
YOU don’t have to splash out on a big ticket item to get a good deal during Amazon’s event.
Anita says: “We often think of sales events as a way of bagging items to treat yourself or your loved ones.
“But it can also be the perfect opportunity to pick up household essentials at a great price.”
Amazon sells all sorts, from cleaning products to pet food, so it could be worth buying in bulk if you spot a big discount.
For example, last year there was a third off Sheba wet cat food, taking the price to £9.29 instead of £13.82.
That’s a purrfect saving of £4.53.
AIR FRYERS
IF you’re yet to jump on to the air fryer trend, this week could be a good time to pick up one of the gadgets for a knock-down price.
Natalie from couponbirds.com says: “Air fryers are currently all the rage and are tipped for substantial price cuts.”
Comparison site Idealo found the Ninja Dual Zone Air Fryer AF300UK was £157.99 on last year’s Amazon Prime Day, down from £169.99 a month before. That’s a hot saving of £12.
BEAUTY AND MAKE-UP
THIS could be the perfect opportunity to treat yourself to new makeup or skincare.
Anita says: “Amazon has a wide range of beauty brands listed onsite, including trending brands like CeraVe, Olay and Elemis.
“On Amazon Prime Day last year these brands were heavily discounted, with up to 83 per cent off some products, so we can expect big discounts again this October.
“For example, last year there was 45 per cent off Aussie hair serum for curly hair, making it £5.46 instead of £9.99.”
That’s a saving of £4.53.
Oral B told The Sun that five of its top electric toothbrushes, the iO3, iO4, iO6, iO9 and iO10, will be half price or better this week.
LEGO
IF you know a Lego lover, some of Amazon’s deals on the construction sets often stack up.
Dan Evans, editor at community site HotUKDeals, says: “We have seen some great deep discounts on their play sets – from Harry Potter to Star Wars.”
Last year, the Lego Star Wars Baby Yoda set went down to £43.68 from £69.99 – a saving of £26.31.
HAIR STYLING GADGETS
BEAUTY fans can also use Amazon’s sale to hunt down the latest hair gadgets.
“Buyers can get some fantastic discounts on hair-styling tools including hairdryers, hair straighteners and curling tongs, as well as brand names such as GHD,” says Dan.
“Look past the latest models to get the biggest savings. Often there’s not much difference between the older and the newer versions.”
Idealo found that the GHD Duet Style 2-in-1 Hot Air Styler dropped down to £249.99 on Prime Day, down from £333.67 a month before – a saving of £83.68.
