‘Britain’s scruffiest house’ so messy neighbours wished for SQUATTERS to take over looks unrecognisable after makeover

BRITAIN's "scruffiest house" was once so messy that neighbours wanted squatters to take over - but it now looks unrecognisable after a mammoth makeover.

The house in Tiverton, Devon was abandoned by its owner eight years ago, with its garden becoming an overgrown jungle.

Neighbour Peter Titchley spent years trying to get the ghost home tidied up.

He said: "I'd sooner have squatters in there than this because at least they'd show some effort to look after it.

"It's a bloody great mess."

The empty house was sold for just £188,000 in April last year - and has now been completely made over.

Estate agents describe it as a "fabulous, newly renovated, semi-detached bungalow".

The overgrown garden has been turned into a decked terrace with views of the Devon countryside.

The sitting room boasts bi-fold doors which open out onto the new terrace.

One of the two large double bedrooms looks over the garden and the rolling fields beyond.

The listing added: "To the front of the property is an attractive brick-paved path meandering down to the front door, interspersed with a garden area.

"Steps lead down to the front door, but would also be suited for wheelchair users.

"A driveway provides parking and leads to a single garage with roller shutter electric door and the added benefit of power and light.

"To the rear, doors lead out from the Sitting Room and Hallway onto a very large composite decked terrace.

"Beyond this, there is a good sized fully enclosed expanse of lawn with a gravelled path leading down to the end.

"The rear garden benefits from exceptional far-reaching rural views."

The house is now being rented out for £950 a month.
