MORRISONS has unveiled an hilarious deal to get FREE garlic bread when you buy Peter Kay's new book TV.

The offer will run from Thursday to Sunday in all stores for a cracking price of just £12 (RRP £25).

The deal is a reference to a famous joke the 50-year-old made during his stand-up routine about a family having a holiday meal in a pub and being offered "garlic bread".

The Bolton comedian said: "Garlic Bread?  Garlic... bread?  Garlic?  And bread?  Am I hearing you right?  Garlic bread?"

Kay's utter shock and bewilderment at this encroachment of "foreign food" on our British way of life has entered comedy folklore forever.

Ahead of its release, he revealed he's kept every telly guide he's bought since he was seven.

Peter said: "They're all in a box in the attic and I have every single one since 1979.

"Actually, you can completely believe that. They're a bit tatty and torn now and I've actually seen one or two microscopic white insects wandering across the pages. Probably dining out on Noel Edmonds' face.

"I read through them a few weeks ago and that same excitement came flooding back."

As a child, Peter loved telly so much he had an unusual ­Christmas present request — asking for blank VHS tapes rather than games consoles or Scalextric.

He adds: "When I did manage to get my precious bumper Christmas TV Times and Radio Times, I'd run home as fast as I could, grab a big felt tip and get ticking.

"My stomach just flipped thinking about the excitement it used to give me.

"I'd then spend the next few days carefully working out how many blank videotapes I'd need to ask Father Christmas for so I could tape all of my festive delights."

His new book collects his childhood TV memories and ­documents his own journey to realising his small screen dreams — from making tea at Granada Studios to creating some of our best-loved comedy programmes, including Phoenix Nights and Car Share.
