And he recommended how others can follow his example and cut household grocery costs amid the rising cost of living.

Twenty-year-old Conor, a video editor from London, shared his weekly shopping list which saves him £150 a month compared to previous spending.

The iron-pumping exercise fan told how he used to splash out £60 each week on protein-packed meals, but has now whittled that bill down to £19.40.

He still targets high-protein products - but now with a keener eye on keeping costs down, he told money-saving website .

This means prioritising meals involving black beans, pork, sausages and tuna but finding budget versions much cheaper than before.

The regular gym-goer said he wanted to find protein-filled meals "without breaking the bank" from his nearest shop which happens to be a branch of Tesco.

He said: "I did some research into how I can get protein sources on the cheap and after some trial and error I’ve come up with a meal plan I find easy to stick with."

He described a daily diet featuring fried eggs or banana oats for breakfast, followed by either sausages and rice with vegetables or tuna and sweetcorn wrap for lunch.

Dinner will typically be pork chilli or else sweet potatoes stuffed with black beans and tomato.

He now manages to cover his weekly breakfasts by picking up six eggs for £1.50, 1kg of oats at 90p, four bananas costing 87p and a £1.20, two-pint bottle of semi-skimmed milk.

He found frozen broccoli and cauliflower the best bet for lunchtime options, at 80p for 900g, to go with eight Woodside Farm pork sausages costing £1.50 and 1kg of long grain rice at £1.25.

Alternative lunches are made during the week from eight wholemeal tortilla wraps priced at £1.10, three tins of tuna chunks costing £2.40 together and a 65p 200g sweetcorn can.

Dinners stretching across seven evenings take from 500g of Woodside Farm pork mince at £2.65, two brown onions for 34p, red kidney beans priced at 95p and 1kg of potatoes for £1.09.

Added to that are a 55p red pepper, 400g of black beans for 65p and finally two tins of Tesco Italian chopped tomatoes for £1.

Conor added: "The best part is that I only need a £20 note to pick up everything I need - and I put the 60p change in my piggy bank for cheat days."

Latest Deals co-founder Tom Church praised him for doing a "great job" making such "impressive savings", adding: "I'm sure many people will be trying out his meal plan."

Tesco has also proved popular for slashing the price of a summer item for families dubbed a "godsend".
