It means customers have to ask staff to unlock items — some with prices beginning at £16.

Shopper Suzie Morris was shocked to find the rows of locked cabinets in Dunelm’s branch in Bournemouth, Dorset.

The 28-year-old said: “I nipped into Dunelm and I couldn’t believe my eyes.

“All of the shop’s Dorma duvet covers and pillow cases were locked away.”

Dunelm obtained the exclusive right to sell Dorma bedding ranges in 2011.

Prices start from £16 for a set of pillowcases, rising to £230 for luxury duvets.

It comes amid a 24 per cent increase in shoplifting offences reported in England and Wales in the past year, according to the Office of National Statistics.

Dunelm confirmed the tactic is in place in roughly half of their 177 UK stores.
