I tested Calippo dupes – a supermarket is identical to the popular brand and costs just 27p
NOTHING beats the humble ice lolly to cool you down on a hot summer's day.
One of the best options for kids is the Calippo, a refreshing lolly in a push up tube that is relatively low in sugar and calories compared to other treats.
But a pack of five mini versions will set you back £2.40 now - and other supermarkets sell copycat versions for a fraction of the price.
But do they taste as good?
We asked Lynsey Hope, 42, from West Malling, Kent, to find out.
Her favourite was from a budget supermarket chain and can save you cash.

Walls Calippo Mini Orange and Lime Ice Lolly
- £2.40 for 5 (48p each)
- 60p per 100ml
Advertised as mini but these are almost as big as the full size and full of fruity flavour.
Refreshing, the kids devour these whenever I buy a box. The only downside is the price.
Working out at 48p per lolly, they are much pricier than own-brand options.

Lidl Gelatelli Lemon, Lime and Orange Flavoured Mini Lollies
- £1.59 for 6 (26.5p each)
- 33p per 100ml
What a treat! These Lidl copycat lollies taste identical to the real thing and they are 22p cheaper per lolly.
My favourite was the lime flavour but loved the orange too.

Aldi Gianna's Ice Coolers
- £1.59 for 6
- 33p per 100ml
Aldi's flavours were a bit more exciting than Wall's and Lidl's and my three kids lapped up the strawberry and tropical ones.
They are a great summer holiday treat given they are only 48 calories each.

Calippo Orange Ice Lolly (105ml)
- £1.40 for one
If you want one this big, you have to buy it individually. You can only get the mini versions in multipack.
The traditional orange flavour was fruity and refreshing but very expensive to buy it this way especially when you consider you get can six similar lollies at Lidl for an extra 19p.

Morrisons Chill Out Push Ups
- £1.10 for four
- 39.3p per 100ml
Morrisons' looked very basic in plain packaging but the flavours were nice, particularly the apple and blackcurrant.
You could tell they were made with real fruit juice.
Pricier than Aldi and Lidl but still a good price compared to Calippo.
They were a little harder than some of the others to squeeze out of the tube, and went a bit slushy by the end.

Rowntree's Push Up Ice Lollies
- £2 for 6
- 42p per 100ml
Loved these lollies, which only contain 55 to 66 calories each depending on which flavour you choose.
They don't contain any artificial colours, flavours or preservatives and tasted refreshing, fruity and delicious.
