The Shwop scheme is a partnership between M&S and Oxfam that prevents old items of clothing from going into landfill.

Items that are donated are either resold, reused or recycled, so that absolutely nothing goes to waste.

You can also take your unwanted items of clothing directly to Oxfam.

If you make a donation to an Oxfam shop and it contains at least one item of M&S-labelled clothing, you will be given a £5 Marks and Spencer voucher.

Some items such as swimwear, underwear and socks are excluded, and terms and conditions do apply.

We recommend checking the terms and conditions on the Oxfam website.

You can also choose to make yourself a bit of extra cash by selling your unwanted items online.

With a growing number of apps and websites for reselling clothes, it is now easier than ever.

One shopping expert has revealed how you can make hundreds of pounds selling your unwanted stuff on platforms such as Depop.

You can also use Vinted, which is great for selling every- thing from sportswear to high street brands and designer gear.

Best of all, the seller pays nothing.

Buyers pay a fee of three to eight per cent, plus 30p-80p, to cover refunds if their items do not arrive or if they get damaged in the post.

Another easy way to sell to local buyers is by using Facebook marketplace.

Most users are looking for a bargain, so you might not get a high price, but it’s fairly hassle-free and you don’t pay commission or listing fees.

Also on eBay, you can list up to 1,000 items a month for free.

You’ll pay commission of 12.8 per cent on what you sell, plus a 30p fee.
