I tested supermarket 7UP dupes – a bargain shop surprised me and I would avoid adding it to my basket

WHEN it comes to 7UP, is anything better than the real thing or can a supermarket dupe beat it?
The popular lemon and lime fizzy drink has been titillating tastebuds for over 100 years.
But with supermarket own-brand dupes costing less than the real thing, do any of them measure up?
We put it to the test.
We compared the original 7UP zero sugar to shops' lemon & lime zero sugar fizzy drinks.
We tested taste, price, and fizzyness to give them an overall score.
More taste tests
Of all the taste tests The Sun has done, this was one of the hardest.
There just wasn't a massive difference between the dupes.
Except for one, which surprisingly came bottom of the pile despite being a popular go-to for dupes of other food favourites.
7UP
- £1.25-£1.90 (2L)
- Price per litre - 73p - 95p

In terms of flavour, the original 7UP beats them all.
It's sweet and full of fruit tastes and had the perfect amount of fizzyness.
It's perfect for those summer days in the garden and was really refreshing.
The classic 7UP logo is also great and you know exactly what you're getting from the label.
However, this one is the most expensive bottle to buy and depending on where you get it from can cost between £1.25 to £1.90 - nearly four times as much as some of the supermarket dupes.
All in all, this did get the highest score so if you're able to justify the the higher price, then this might be worth it.
- Taste: 10/10
- Price: 4/10
- Fizz: 10/10

Asda
- 80p (2L)
- Price per litre - 40p
Asda's 7UP dupe tasted really nice and fruity, however I didn't feel it was very fizzy.
I can't imagine the fizz would last that long if you were to pop it in the fridge for a few days.
For a lemon and lime drink it was fine but it didn't blow me away.
However, it's a lot cheaper than 7UP and would cost you just 80p.
It's a good option if you're after a 2 litre drink and don't want to break the bank.
It was in joint second place with Tesco for being the cheapest per litre - at 40p.
- Taste: 6/10
- Price: 9/10
- Fizz: 7/10
- Overall: 22/30
Morrisons
- 70p (1L)
- Price per litre - 70p
The Morrisons lemon and lime drink was only one litre and fell down on price compared to some of the others.
Morrisons charge 30p more for their dupe at 70p a litre, a big jump on Asda and Tesco's price of 40p..
In terms of flavour though, it was nice and sweet and was very refreshing.
It felt softer when I drank it and had a nice kick of fizz, but again it might not last long in the fridge.

- Price: 6/10
- Fizz: 8/10

Tesco
- 80p (2L)
- Price per litre - 40p
Tesco's dupe tasted very similar to the real 7UP and I was very impressed.
It was sweet, but not too sweet, and had the perfect amount of fizz kick.
It felt really refreshing and this would be a great option for a summer's day.
When we scored it for flavour, fizz and value, Tesco came out top making it our winner.
It came second in price and sat alongside Asda at 40p per litre - for a 2L bottle you'd be spending 80p.
It had a great amount of fizz and was only behind 7UP on taste because it wasn't quite as fruity.
This is a great option if you're after a cheaper, but very similar option to 7UP.
- Taste: 9/10
- Price: 9/10
- Fizz: 9/10

Aldi
- 55p (2L)
- Price per litre - 28p
Aldi is famous for its dupes and often wins for its knockdown prices and great taste.
However, the 7UP option at the bargain supermarket really let me down.
It tasted similar to fizzy water and there was hardly any lemon or lime flavour.
It did come out on top in terms of price though, costing 28p per litre or 55p for a 2L bottle.
It just didn't live up to the Aldi-dupe reputation, unfortunately.
- Taste: 5/10
- Price: 10/10
- Fizz: 6/10
- Overall: 21/30
Co-op
- 78p (1L)
- Price per litre - 78p
Co-op's lemon and lime fizzy drink was nice - it was light and sweet.
In terms of flavour it wasn't far from the real 7UP and was very similar to other supermarkets' dupes.
However, the price let it down - it comes in a litre bottle and is more expensive than the majority of stores which sell the drink in 2L bottles.

It had a nice element of fizz and again, it's great for a refreshing drink.
