Major mobile provider with thousands of customers to close – and you need to take action to keep phone access

A MAJOR mobile provider with tens of thousands of customers will close within months.

Plusnet, which is part of the BT Group and provides broadband and telecom services to over a million UK customers is shutting its mobile arm.

It comes after the mobile network stopped selling its own-brand sim-only mobile plans to new customers at the end of March 2023.

At the time, a spokesperson for the firm said: “Existing customers will remain on their current plans.

“Over time we will be contacting existing customers directly to let them know what this change means for them.”

Plusnet’s mobile services piggyback off the EE network which is also owned by the BT Group.

At the beginning of this month, existing Plusnet Mobile customers started to receive an email which confirmed that the network is in the process of winding down its services.

The email said: “We will be closing all our mobile services in the coming months.

“This means you’ll need to switch your service to another provider in the future.”

All Plusnet sim cards will stop working in the coming months so you’ll need to switch to ensure you can still make calls, receive texts, browse the web and ensure that you can keep your number.

Affected customers can switch to another network without a fee and it doesn’t matter if they’re mid-contract.

To switch now, you’ll need to phone Plusnet and 0800 079 1133 and ask for your final bill.

And if you want to keep your number – make sure to switch as soon as possible.

To keep your number you’ll need to request a switching code by texting “PAC” to 65075 – you’ll then need to give this code to your new network provider within 30 days of joining.

Plusnet Mobile customers will be offered exclusive EE deals in the coming months.

But it’s important to remember that they might not be the best deals on offer.
