LUCKY STREAK

I won £10,000-a-month on Lottery Set For Life draw and celebrated by treating my friends – here’s why they complained

A LUCKY builder celebrated winning the lottery by splashing out on a round of bacon butties for his workmates.

Paul Bevans, 50, picked up the breakfast rolls from his favourite cafe and told his pals: “Tuck in, I’ve won the lottery.”

Then he gave them an even bigger surprise by picking up his tools to carry on working.

Paul brought home the bacon on the Lottery’s Set For Life game, earning him £10,000-a-month for a whole year.

He said: “I checked the numbers on my phone and when I realised I’d won I told my boss.

“He let me go to the nearest lottery outlet to check and on the way back I was so happy I bought everyone breakfast rolls.

“They were mostly bacon but there was sausage and egg too.

“Then they complained that I forgot the tomato sauce.”

Paul is planning a holiday of a lifetime in Jamaica and a trip to see his beloved Liverpool who he has supported all his life but has only ever seen them on TV.

Top of his shopping list is a camper van - he’s been saving up for one for the last five years.

Paul, from Milford Haven, Pembrokeshire, said: “The first £10,000 dropped into my account last Friday - that was a lovely moment.

“One more month and I’ll be able to get a decent camper van, second hand though.”

Unmarried Paul earns £1,500 a month and says his win will be an end-of-month bonus of his dreams.

He said: “It’s not a life changing amount for some people but it will change my life for good.

Lottery winner Paul Bevans

Proud Welshman Paul said he will carry on playing the lottery to see if he can continue his winning streak.

And the hard-working builder revealed a little secret about his ticket checking ritual.

He said: “I know my mates will laugh when they hear this but, whenever I check my tickets on the app, I scan it and close my eyes hoping to hear the little tune it plays when your ticket is a winner.

“Usually when I hear that little ditty it’s announcing a £5 or sometimes £10 win, but this time when I opened my eyes I was congratulated on being a Set For Life winner, £10,000 every month for a year.

“I couldn’t believe what I was seeing, in fact I was so unsure that I scanned the ticket about five times – this time with my eyes firmly open – and each time there was the same winning message.”

Paul bought his winning National Lottery Set For Life ticket for the draw on March 27, 2023 at the Nisa store on Marble Hall Road in Milford Haven.

The winning numbers on that date were 6,16, 20, 44, 47 and the Life Ball 9.

A National Lottery spokeswoman said: “Paul’s such a smashing guy - he’s not stopped laughing since he won.

“He celebrated with a bottle of champagne and you’ve guessed it - a plate of bacon sandwiches.”
