Brit shoppers warned over ‘rip off’ Easter Eggs that are double the cost – here’s what to look for
EASTER eggs sold in big packs have been labelled a rip off — as they cost almost double, for not much more chocolate.
Many products have the same size egg despite larger boxes, and extra chocolate could be bought cheaper separately.
Both the Cadbury’s Mini Eggs Easter Egg, £3 in Sainsbury’s and Waitrose, and the larger pack, which sells for £5 or £6, have a 155g egg inside.
The only difference is one extra 38.5g bag of Mini Eggs.
An 80g bag costs £1.50 if bought on its own.
A Cadbury’s Creme Egg Easter Egg has a 155g egg in both its £3 and £5 to £6 boxes.

An extra Creme Egg is in the big box — which costs 70p off the shelf.
A medium-sized Dairy Milk Buttons Egg costs £1 for 96g in Tesco with a Clubcard, but the Giant Buttons egg costs £8 for 419g.
If you bought eight medium ones for the same price as the larger egg, you would have 83 per cent more chocolate.
An extra large Aero Peppermint egg with 230g of chocolate is £5, but the large version, with 222g, is £3.
Disappointed fans branded the packs a “rip off” with one saying: “All you get extra is a tiny pack of mini eggs or Creme Egg.”
Sarah Coles, of investment firm Hargreaves Lansdown, warned today: “Don’t get carried away with shiny packaging, because you’ll be blowing your cash on cardboard rather than chocolate.”
Sainsbury’s said: “We offer customers a range of chocolate eggs and have deals on many of these in the run up to Easter.”
Speaking for Cadbury, a Mondelez International spokesman said: “At Cadbury we aim to offer fans a wide selection of seasonal Easter treats with different size and price options.”
