Firstly, from April 18, the Clubcard app will officially close and customers will need to download a new app - the Tesco Grocery & Clubcard app - in order to keep earning points. You won't lose your points if you forget to download the new app in time, but you won't be able to get new ones without it.

Then, from June 14, the value of Clubcard vouchers will change. Currently, you can exchange and triple the value of these vouchers at various reward partners including  and Zizzi.

But from June 14, Clubcard vouchers will only be worth double their value if exchanged at any of Tesco's 100 reward partners.

Major supermarket will close on Easter Sunday

Aldi will pull down shutters on all 890 stores in England and Wales on Easter Sunday, April 9.

But branches will be open on Good Friday, Easter Saturday and Easter Monday.

It's worth noting that shops in England and Wales larger than 280 square metres have to close on Easter Sunday and Christmas Day, under Government rules.

Plus, shops of the same size can open on Sundays normally, but only for six consecutive hours between 10am and 6pm.

Aldi said branches will be open between 8am and 10pm on Good Friday, 8am to 10pm on Easter Saturday and 8am to 8pm on Easter Monday this year.

How can I cut the cost of my shopping at Morrisons?

If you're set on heading to Morrisons, there's a few things you can do to save money on your next visit.

A number of supermarkets, including Morrisons, sell wonky veg to customers at discounted prices.

Most of the time the quality is still just as good but its just slightly misshapen.

Shoppers can buy a £3 box for delivery while the larger £5 box contains enough fresh fruit and beg to feed a family of four for five days.

The supermarket also sells "Magic Bags", which are full of surplus food and sell for £3.30 when they're worth £10.

You can get everything from fresh fruit and veg, to milk, cheese, bread and baked goods.

How supermarkets are getting competitive on prices

In September 2022, Morrisons slashed prices on 150 products online and in-store, reducing everything from meat, to rice, pizza and bread.

In January, it dropped prices on 1,000 everyday products to help customers through the "January squeeze".

The following month, it dropped prices on more than 60 own brand products.

It comes after inflation hit 10.1% in January - after falling from 10.5% in December.

Meanwhile, grocery price inflation hit a record 16.7% in January, according to analysts Kantar.

It means the cost of everyday essentials is rising, squeezing people's wallets and purses.

But some supermarkets are locking in product prices or dropping them to try and retain customers' business.

In January, Sainsbury's launched a price-dropping campaign, meaning over 300 products now match Aldi's prices.

At the same time, Tesco froze prices on more than a thousand everyday products until April 10.

In February, Waitrose announced it was investing £100million in to cutting prices on hundreds of its own-brand products.

How do Morrisons' the prices compare?

Of course you should always shop around when looking at buying any products.

Just because Morrisons has slashed prices on some of its products, that doesn't mean you can't get them cheaper elsewhere.

Websites like trolley.co.uk let you compare thousands of products across a number of major supermarkets.

The website is based on online prices only, but it helps give you an idea of whether you are getting the best value for money on something.

Supermarkets change their prices often, sometimes daily.

Morrisons makes big change to prices AGAIN

Morrisons has made a big change to prices on hundreds of products - and its good news for customers.

The supermarket chain has slashed prices on 460 products including beef mince meat, crumpets and floor wipes.

Included in the list of reduced items is 500g of 5% lean beef mince for £4.89 down from £5.25.

Meanwhile, shoppers can get Filippo Berio Extra Virgin Olive Oil 500ml for £4.50 down from £6.49.

Plus, you can pick up Warburtons Giant Crumpets for 75p down from £1.10 and Dettol Lemon and Lime Floor Wipes for £1.50 down from £2.25.

The offers are available in all of Morrisons 499 supermarkets with the majority of the products available online too.

Shopper takes extreme measure to ensure he never forgets Tesco Clubcard

A Tesco fanatic says he has "no regrets" after tattooing his Clubcard QR code on his wrist - despite only saving £18 worth of points.

Dean Mayhew, 31, inked up the QR code on his wrist, and has no issues scanning it when it's time to pay for his shopping.

The father-of-three is happy to share the love too, snapping a photo of the price-saving loyalty card and sending to friends to use at their whim.

Since getting the tat last July, Dean says he has "no regrets" about going through with the procedure - as elevating food prices leave Brits hankering to save wherever they can.

While he has only gathered £18 worth of savings, the scaffolder says he hopes the incurred savings will cover the costs of the indulgent squeeze at Christmas.

Thousands can get supermarket vouchers worth up to £500

Families can apply for vouchers to help pay for food and other essentials, and they can be spent at supermarkets.

The support comes via the Household Support Fund (HSF) which is worth £421million.

The pot of  has come from the government and has been shared between councils in England.

The level of support available differs across the country, but councils have to allocate the latest round of the Household Support Fund cash by March 31.

This means there is just days left to apply for this round of funding.

But if you miss out this time, don't worry too much because the fund has been extended by the government.

Make sure you keep checking your local council's website because they are likely to launch new schemes in the coming weeks.

Major supermarket announces closures next month

Aldi will pull down shutters on all 890 stores in England and Wales on Easter Sunday, April 9.

But branches will be open on Good Friday, Easter Saturday and Easter Monday.

But which is best?

Before opting to sign up to any loyalty schemes it's important to take into account where you do your regular shop.

If you're brand loyal, then the chances are it'll be best to take up membership with your favourite supermarket.

As far as top picks go, the Tesco Clubcard scheme comes out at the top. It's the biggest supermarket chain across the UK with over 4,000 stores.

Clubcard customers can save on hundreds of every essential items just by being a member.

And without one, you'll pay more at the tills than those who do have one.

Sainsbury's Nectar Card scheme closely follows by also giving customers exclusive prices on the products they buy the most.

You also have the added flexibility to redeem your Nectar points across a whole range of other brands.

Do other supermarkets have loyalty cards?

It isn't just Tesco that has a loyalty card to help you save on your shop.

From Sainsbury's to Marks and Spencer, many of Britain's supermarkets have a loyalty scheme to help you save.

Here are just a few:

  • Sainsbury's
  • Lidl Plus
  • Iceland's
  • M&S Sparks card
  • MyWaitrose

How does the Tesco Clubcard scheme work?

was launched in 1995, allowing shoppers to earn points as they shop which can then be turned into vouchers for money off food or other partner schemes.

Each time you spend £1 in store and online, you get one point when you scan your card or app.

You also get one point for every £2 spent on fuel.

One point equals 1p, so 150 points get you £1.50, for example.

You'll need a minimum of 150 points to request a voucher.

Once you have enough points, you can turn them into vouchers worth the face value to spend in-store at Tesco, or boost their value with reward partners.

Clubcard holders also get cheaper prices on some items compared to those without the loyalty card.

What have Tesco said about the changes?

A Tesco spokesperson said:  "Clubcard unlocks the best value from Tesco - from thousands of exclusive deals through Clubcard Prices, to money off your groceries and fuel, or accessing double the value of your vouchers with more than 100 Clubcard Reward Partners.

"Millions of people tap their Tesco Clubcard every time they shop, benefiting from access to more than 8,000 weekly deals on Clubcard Prices.

"And with potential savings of up to £351 a year, more people than ever before are making the most of the immediate value that Tesco Clubcard offers.

"We are making a change to how members can use their vouchers with our Reward Partners, but they will still be able to unlock great value in the same range of ways as before."

The second change coming to Tesco Clubcards this June

The supermarket chain is reducing the value of Clubcard vouchers spent with reward partners.

At the moment, customers can exchange and triple the value of these vouchers at various reward partners including  and Zizzi.

But from June 14, Clubcard vouchers will only be worth double their value if exchanged at any of Tesco's 100 reward partners.

The move will mean that their value won't go as far as it used to on things like family days out at Alton Towers Resort, meals at PizzaExpress, sunny getaways with Hotels.com and much more.

Customers wishing to avoid the points devaluation for as long as possible can do so by ordering partner codes before June 14.

These codes will still be worth the current rate and shoppers will have 12 months from their issue to redeem them.

Tesco has justified the changes to ensure that they can still give Clubcard members great deals.

The first change coming to Tesco Clubcards this April

From Tuesday, April 18, shoppers will no longer be able to use the Clubcard app.

Customers will need to download a new app - the Tesco Grocery & Clubcard app - in order to keep earning points.

But if you don't download the new app by the time the current apps close, you won't lose any points or coupons.

You'll just have to log in online to access your account.

In order to continue earning points after April 18, you'll have needed to download the new app or use your physical Clubcard card.

Tesco spokesperson said the new Grocery & Clubcard app is the "easiest way to make the most" of Clubcard offers.

"You can use it when shopping online or in-store as a one-stop-shop to save money, collect points and use your vouchers and coupons.

"You can also unlock extra value from your vouchers by using them with one of our Reward Partners through the Grocery & Clubcard app."
