I’m a skincare expert – six tips for a radiant complexion without breaking the bank
TAKING good care of your skin need not mean paying out for pricey potions.
Nicola Jones, founder of skincare brand Face Junkie, knows a thing or two about looking after your face.
Here are some of her tips for a radiant complexion that won’t cost you a penny.
DRINK WATER: Keeping hydrated is a must for a glowing face.
After waking, Nicola says, drinking a glass of water before anything else will set you up well. Keep a bottle with you to sip throughout the day.
TWEAK YOUR DIET: Hyaluronic acid has moisturising properties and is produced in the skin. It’s added to lots of serums to promote more youthful skin.
However, it is also found in citrus fruits, potatoes and green leafy veg.
Bone broth is rich in both hyaluronic acid and collagen, which helps improve skin elasticity. A diet that includes these foods can help your complexion.
BEAUTY SLEEP: Nicola says: “A good night’s sleep will help to boost collagen, improve overall skin quality, reduce premature ageing and fight environmental damage much better.”
EXFOLIATE: Nicola recommends exfoliating your face at least once a week.

She says: “The key is to gently work on the top layer to buff away dull, dry and flaky skin, revealing a healthy glow.”
Make a homemade face scrub by raiding your cupboard for oatmeal and honey.
Nicola says: “The oats gently exfoliate, and honey is a natural antioxidant which brightens the skin.”
TAKE COVER: The sun’s rays age and damage skin. Protect your face by keeping it shaded — a big sun hat should help.
Nicola says using a daily SPF30 or above is essential, even in winter.
Go for foundations or day creams with it included. She adds: “SPF protects skin from premature ageing, fine lines, wrinkles, blotchiness and age spots.”
CLEAN UP: Make sure you regularly wash your make-up kit.
Nicola says: “Bacteria build-up on brushes can cause breakouts and blackheads to form.”
