Major supermarket issues ‘do not eat’ warning on popular chocolate ice creams

A MAJOR supermarket is urging shoppers to return some of its chocolate dessert bars because of health fears.

Iceland is recalling Mars dessert bars because they may contain peanuts and egg, which are not mentioned on the labels.

Some packs have been incorrectly packed with Snickers dessert bars, according to the Food Standards Agency

The Agency, which regulates food providers, said the products were a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to peanuts or an allergy, or intolerance, to egg.

A product recall alert notice reads: "We are taking a precautionary measure of recalling this batch of the above product because, due to a mis pack, it may contain undeclared egg and peanut allergens."

The product impacted is the Mars Dessert Bar, 600g, best before February, 23 2024.

The desert bars can be purchased at multiple Iceland stores and a product recall notice will be displayed in all branches that sell them.

The Food Standards Agency, which posted the issue, has said customers can get a refund from stores directly.

If you have bought the product and you have an allergy, the agency says you should not eat it.

What are my rights to a refund?

If you're returning a recalled product, your rights to get a refund depends on whether the fault makes the product unsafe.

Sometimes the business will repair the product, for example by fitting a new part. But this should be done for you.

If a fault makes a product unsafe to use — and it's difficult to correct the fault — the Consumer Guarantees Act says you might have the right to reject the product and claim a replacement or a refund.

The product recalls apply to Tesco's whey protein with flavours of strawberry and chocolate.
