Those in areas including Bath, Bradford, Bristol, Manchester and Swansea, will all benefit from double payments.

This is because cold weather payments have been triggered twice in 286 postcodes - meaning thousands are due two payments of £25.

Eligible households will have the cash paid directly into their bank accounts within 14 days.

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) hands out the extra cash to certain households struggling to pay their energy bills.

The cold weather payments are made in locations where residents experience continuous below-zero weather.

Households can get £25 during each seven-day period of low temperatures from now until March 31.

Arctic conditions have continued to freeze the nation as temperatures plummeted, with numerous yellow weather warnings for snow and ice issued by the Met Office.

And heavy snow sent temperatures plummeting to 15°C making the UK colder than Finland.
