We may be running into winter here in the UK, but who's to say you can't jet over to Italy for some nicer weather?.

Well, according to , Presicce is coaxing visitors in to try and welcome diversity and brand new faces.

Local councillor Alfredo Palese said: “There are many empty homes in the historical center built before 1991 which we would like to see alive again with new residents."

The average home in the area costs roughly $25,000 - which translates to just over £21,000.

That amount of money will buy you a 500 sq-ft home in the village.

The remote town is near Salento - which is right at the boot of Italy - along with the beautifully clear waters and gorgeous beaches of Santa Maria di Leuca.

It's said to have "wonderful architecture and art" by the council, yet it's "slowly emptying".

Palese continued: "We will be offering up to 30,000 euros to people willing to move here and buy one of these abandoned dwellings.

"The total funding will be split in two: it will go partly into buying an old home and partly into restyling it, if needed."

There's isn't a lot more information out at the moment because the deal is still being finalised, but more is likely to arrive soon on the - so keep your eyes peeled.

An application form will presumably appear on there as well.

To qualify, you'll need to agree to become a full time resident and buy one of the properties built before 1991.

According to CNN, the pretty town can afford to pay incoming residents the money after it merged with a neighbouring town in 2019, becoming Presicce-Acquarica.

Palese said: "After the merger, as per Italian law, our wider territory will be blessed with more public funds, roughly 1,000,000 euros per year for several years forward, which we intend to invest to revitalise the old district."

Presicce currently has a population of 9,000, but only half of those residents live in the more obsolete part of the town.

It's not yet clear how many people Presicce is willing to pay to move there.

There have been a few other schemes announced by the town in the past including tax benefits to help local businesses as well as baby bonuses for families with kids, CNN reports.

Presicce is commonly named the "city of green gold" after the luxurious extra virgin olive oil it produces from its top-class olive groves.
