Winds of change could create 2million green jobs by 2030 – how you can go eco
THE cost-of-living crisis and energy price hikes are forcing all of us to consider living more sustainably.
Next week sees the UK’s first Green Careers Week, encouraging people to go eco with their job.
The Government has set a target of creating two million green jobs by 2030 and DWP Minister Guy Opperman said: “From renewable energy to recycling, from nuclear to new green start-ups, there are vacancies across the country in a variety of sectors that will help people to get their first step on the green career ladder.”
While there are well-known ones in sectors such as renewable energy, organic farming and forestry, a green job can be any role that contributes to preserving or restoring the environment and our planet.
The week was launched following research showing that 60 per cent of young people are worried about climate change and 45 per cent consider sustainable sectors to offer a more secure career path.

CREATE A NET GAIN
NETWORKING is essential for climbing the career ladder but a quarter of workers claim to hate it.
Tomorrow is Global Networking Day so here British Networker of the Year Marc Jarrett, from the Emjay Consultancy, reveals his top tips to get you started.
See for more information.
Networking is universal. We are all hardwired to grow our tribes by engaging in this process.
Networking is not about you. It’s about them. Take an interest in others and they will reciprocate.
Listen twice as much as you talk. We have two ears and one mouth for a reason.
Networking is like opening a bank account. You cannot make a withdrawal until you have made a deposit.
Don’t like networking in person? Use social media and WhatsApp groups. There are around two billion people already doing the same.
Networking online offers you globality. The whole wide world is our proverbial oyster.

ATTRACTIVE APPLE
APPLE is now the world’s most attractive employer, after knocking Google off the top spot for the first time in 13 years.
The annual survey from Universum shows tech firms dominate the chart, but while workers are looking for a good work-life balance, the economic slowdown means companies are becoming choosier on who they hire.
“We expect 2023 will be a year of rebalancing,” said Mats Röjdmark, Universum chief executive officer.
“In 2023 employees will need to ‘give’ as much as they ‘get’.”
