Four ways to save on spooky parties this Halloween

SCREAM if you can’t wait for Halloween.

The run-up to the big weekend is set to be filled with spooky parties, and entertaining can end up frightfully expensive.

But here are ways to save . . .

INCY WINCY PRICE TAG: Get some A2 card (£1, Hobbycraft) and a marker pen to draw a giant web. Then get the kids to use separate paper to draw their own spiders.

Cut them out, add Blu Tack (£1, The Range) on the back and find a makeshift blindfold. Guests just have to pin the spider on the web and the one closest to the centre wins.

A GREAT MUMMY-SAVER: If you have the space, a mummy-binding contest or race is great fun. Kids love using loo roll, but it’s pricey right now, so consider Hobbycraft white crepe.

Two 24-metre rolls are £2, so give each team a section, which should be plenty. Get the teams to bind the body and legs of one member then go in the garden for a sack race with a difference. Kids can also wrap each other up, with parents awarding prizes for the best mummies.

CARVE OUT A DEAL: This can bring out the competitive side of your party, so watch out. Prep ahead by grabbing a few medium pumpkins from Aldi, 75p each, slice off the tops and scoop out the flesh — for dinners next week.

Then pop the lids back on and ensure everyone has access to marker pens or a Wilko pumpkin carving kit, £1.20. Play it safe and add a battery-powered tea light from The Works, £1 for four, with batteries included. Creepiest face wins.

CHEAP SHOT IN THE DARK: Adults love beer pong. Put cups of booze on a table, divide into teams, then try to lob ping-pong balls into your opponents’ cups. If these land, your opponents drink.

For extra Halloween fun, pour shots of everything from Apple Sourz (now £7.50 per 70cl instead of £8 at Asda) to pickled gherkin juice, 36p per jar at Lidl.

Make it kid-friendly by using different soft drinks and some black and red food dye — Dr Oetker strong food colouring gel is now £1 instead of £1.50 with a Tesco Clubcard.
