IF you own a tumble dryer you probably think twice before using it, since energy prices soared.

Power bills for the average household are set to climb even higher, reaching £2,500 a year under the new Price Guarantee from Saturday.

But what you are charged depends on how much energy you use, so cutting back now will really pay off.

Here’s how to save on drying your laundry and where to find the best deals on heated airers . . .

THE RAIL DEAL: Ditching the tumble dryer is all well and good but it’s no fun having soggy laundry hanging everywhere As the colder weather sets in, it takes longer for clothes to dry naturally.

But you can speed things up and put those unsightly drying racks away quicker, if you switch to a heated airer.

Using a tumble dryer for an hour or two twice a week would cost £92 a year, according to Uswitch.

But a heated airer would be more like £66 a year if you use it for eight hours a week.

Aldi recently launched one for £39.99, which sold out in super-quick time. The store says it will be available to pre-order online again from Sunday.

£40 model with wings is also currently sold out but look out for its return. Argos is offering a winged one for £55.

COVER UP: Using a cover over your heated airer to create a tent will keep warmth in and help to get clothes dry even more quickly, saving you a load more cash.

Aldi’s model comes with its own cover — but if your dryer doesn’t, get one for £14.99 on Amazon.

GO FOR A SPIN: To make laundry easier to dry, try putting your washing machine on for an extra ten-minute spin before you hang out your clothes.

HANG IN THERE: To create extra drying space, put shirts dresses, tees and sweaters on to clothes hangers.

AIR’S AN IDEA: Reduce damp in your home by placing a disposable dehumidifier near wet clothes. Amazon has a ten-pack of Ansio ones for £15.98.
