MAJOR supermarkets including Aldi and Tesco have pulled popular cupboard staples from the shelves.

Tinned sardines, cheese and pasta are among the list of items which have recently been recalled from shops.

Sometimes things go wrong and products have to be recalled by manufacturers - and it's down to retailers to pull them off shelves and tell customers.

A number of food items have had urgent warnings issued over them - here's what you need to know.

John West sardines

Customers have been warned not to eat certain tins of John West sardines over fears of a possible microbiological contamination.

The following tins are affected and should not be eaten:

  • John West boneless Sardines in sunflower oil: pack size 95g; batch codes 109, 110, 111, 112, 113; best before December 2026
  • John West Sardines in olive oil: pack size 120g; batch codes 109, 110, 111, 112, 113; best before December 2026

Customers have been told to return their tins back to the store they bought it from to get a full refund.

You don't need to fish out your receipt - you will automatically get the money back.

Posters will be placed around supermarkets selling the items telling shoppers about the recall.

When The Sun checked which shops are selling these goods online, we spotted Waitrose, Tesco and Sainsbury's were selling them.

Primula Spicy Cheese N Jalapeno

Aldi is recalling Primula Spicy Cheese N Jalapeno from some stores because of a "temperature control issue" that could make it unsafe to eat.

Packs affected are 140g tubes with a use by date of February 7 2023 - but only if you bought them from a specific store.

Around 81 stores in the Midlands are affected which you can see on .

Don't eat the product - return it to the store where you will get a full refund.

Asda Italian Inspired Chicken and Bacon Pasta Bake

Asda is recalling its Asda Italian Inspired Chicken and Bacon Pasta Bake because mustard was not mentioned on the label.

It could be a health risk to anyone who is allergic to the ingredient.

Items affected are 400g and 800g packs with a use by date of July 29 2022 and July 30 2022.
