McDonald’s menu 2022: Cheeseburger price set to ROCKET and new dishes revealed, including halloumi fries

MCDONALD'S has announced a major menu change today, adding a host of brand new snacks and burgers as well as a HUGE price hike.

McDonald's will feature Halloumi Fries & two new burgers at all UK & Ireland restaurants from today.

There's also a summery new drink joining them and the meals and snacks all celebrate the cultures of and .

The Spicy Spanish Stack features chilli cheddar, red onion & spicy tomato sauce in a warm paprika bun, while the Chicken Fiesta comes with a crispy chicken fillet topped with chorizo and spicy cheddar in a chilli and paprika topped bun.

However, this does mean the Taste of Italy burgers and sides will be coming off the menu immediately to make room for the new products.

With these new items, comes a price hike for the first time in 14 years.

“We’re living through incredibly challenging times and we’re all seeing the cost of everyday items, such as food and energy, increase in a way many of us have never experienced,” said McDonald’s UK and Ireland chief executive Alistair Macrow.

“Just like you, our company, our franchisees who own and operate our restaurants, and our suppliers are all feeling the impact of rising inflation.”

    Disappointed fans took to social media to lament the announcement.

    Another added: “If McDonald’s increasing their cheeseburger by 20p doesn’t scream cost of living crisis, then I dunno what does.”

    As part of today’s menu change, Halloumi Fries are being added to the fast-food chain’s menu.

    The crispy snack is making a first-time appearance in the UK for £2.49 on its own or £6.49 for a share box.

    The halloumi fries are coated in a light batter, and served with a rich tomato dip.

    The Big Mac is a year 54 year old institution in the fast-food world, but where did it all start?

    According to the fast-food chain, the Big Mac was first served in 1967, when a franchisee named Jim Delligatti developed a larger burger, geared towards adults.

    This double burger would eventually debut in Uniontown, Pa. on April 22.

    The burger was a smash hit, and was added to menus nationwide the following year.

    The rest, as they say, was history.

    McDonald’s claimed that they stopped serving breakfast all day because the food is cooked differently and they do not have the resources to run two different menus throughout the day.

    Their  said: “Items on our breakfast menu are cooked slightly differently and at a different temperature from items on our main menu.

    “This means we don’t have enough space in our kitchens to accommodate the cooking and preparation of our breakfast and main menus at the same time.

    “The 11am cut off enables us to accommodate our breakfast lovers, while allowing customers who enjoy our main menu to get their food before 11.30am.”

    If you go to other countries such as the United States, you will find that they do serve some breakfast items all day.

    While McDonald’s is making a rare set of changes to its iconic menu, these alterations won’t last forever.

    All of these new additions are on for a limited time and will be available until September 6.

    McDonald’s Monopoly has been a fan-favourite game set up in previous years to help customers win free prizes.

    The way it works is players, who can collect a free paper Monopoly board in stores, collect stickers from the packaging of their McDonald’s menu items.

    These can be exchanged for big prizes, if you collect a lot, like these examples from previous years:

    McDonalds launched its expanded loyalty scheme last week, allowing fans to earn points and in turn get free food.

    But what other fast-food joints have loyalty schemes?

    Burger King opened its own scheme this month which allows members to earn and redeem points on over 20 of the chains most popular menu items.

    KFC has its own scheme where you can download its app and collect stamps to earn free food.

    Pizza Hut also has one, called Hut Rewards - you earn "slices" and cash these in for a reward.

    Over the years, rumours have circulated in chatrooms and forums, that the word's biggest fast-food chain has a secret menu, only available to those in the know.

    Well, one inquisitive McDonald's fan took on the task to figure out if the secret menu is real.. or not.

    Writing for , the researcher was met with confused glances and baffled expressions from McDonald's workers when they asked about the special menu items.

    Sadly, no one will ever know if this fabled secret menu exists but with the new customisation features available at the chain, you can change up some of the restaurant's iconic items.

    The NHS says as a general guide, men should eat around 2,500 calories per day, and women 2,000.

    But how much you will need will depend on your size.

    Sugar, fat and salt are also important. These are labelled on foods you buy in the shops by colour coding – green is best, while red is worst.

    Adults are adviced to limit their sugar, fat and salt to:

    • Sugar: 30g of free/added sugars (those that aren’t natural)
    • Saturated fat: 30g for men, and 20g for women
    • Salt: 6g (around one teaspoon

    Who doesn't want a free Big Mac?

    Well with McDonald's expanded loyalty scheme, which rolled out across the country last week, you can get your hands on one.

    To sign up to the scheme, you'll need to download the MyMcDonald's app which you can do for free via Google Play or the App Store.

    As you spend more via the app, you will rack up loyalty points, which eventually allow you to bag free food.

    McDonald's hasn't said if there are any purchases you can't earn points on - and if this calculation will be done automatically.

    While the loyalty scheme could help regulars save money over time - it does reward unhealthy eating, especially at a time when Britain is on track to become the fattest nation in Europe.

    The iconic fast-food chain will expand this program across all of its 1,300 UK outlets.

    This follows a pilot which saw the scheme - where customers can earn points and exchange them for free food including Big Macs and McNuggets - tested across 75 select restaurants.

    Anyone who has downloaded the McDonald's app can points and start redeeming them now.

    There are 15 items you can get for free once you've earned enough points, including popular breakfast items and McFlurries.

    You have to collect 1,500 points in order to bag these goodies:

    • Small Fries
    • Mini McFlurry
    • Regular McCafé
    • Hash Brown
    • Side Salad
    • £1.50 to donation to charity

    Bagging 2,500 points will get you one of the following:

    • Double Cheeseburger
    • Veggie Deluxe
    • Bacon Mayo Chicken 
    • Cheesy Bacon Flatbread
    • Medium Fries
    • £2.50 donation to charity

    If you rack up 4,000 points, you can choose from the following:

    • 6 Chicken McNuggets
    • Big Mac
    • McChicken Sandwich
