We tried cheaper supermarket dupes of Cornetto including Tesco, Asda and Lidl – there was one clear winner
A SUPERMARKET ice cream has been named the best in a blind taste test beating the Cornetto made by Wall's.
The summer favourite combines ice cream and chocolate in a waffle cone and an extra flavour like strawberry, mint or nut.
Strawberry flavoured versions of the treat were tried by a panel of lucky consumers put together by consumer group Which?.
And it was a dupe that triumphed over the original after trying versions from all the supermarkets.
Among those making the grade and giving the original more than a run for their money were cones from Asda, Morrisons and Lidl.
Supermarket versions sold by Sainsbury's, Tesco, Aldi, M&S and Iceland were also put to the test.

Ice creams were marked according to taste, appearance, texture and aroma and then given an overall score out of 100%.
Coming top of the (ice) pops was Lidl's Bon Gelati ice cream cones with an overall rating of 82%.
That compares to Wall's Cornetto with a score of just 66%.
Tasters rated the "clear winners" for their balance of sweetness and creaminess and a decent dollop of strawberry sauce.

Lidl's cones are priced at £1.45 for six - 55p cheaper than Wall's and the second cheapest of those tested.
The discounter's delights are also larger at 120ml per cone versus 90ml for the original.
But Which? highlighted that Lidl's cones contain slightly more sugar and also palm oil, though it's sustainably sourced.
In fact every supermarket dupes ranked higher than the original apart from Iceland's.
Morrissons and Asda were also frozen out as high scorers with 77% and 75% respectively.
Tesco, Sainsbury's, Aldi and M&S also scored higher than Wall's but, not quite as highly as other supermarkets.
Lower marks were down to various factors including weak strawberry sauce, a too soft cone and the ice cream not being creamy enough.
