MELTING away, Brits are looking for any excuse to cool down with a frozen snack, or lick of a cold treat - all before the heatwave hits.

A nice ice cream should do the trick - and we reveal six ways to get one for free or cheap.

The deals have arrived just in time, as the country hots up and Brits prepare to bask in 34C temperatures later this week.

Friday is likely to be the hottest day of the year, with sun-starved consumers set to pile on down to the beach or the local park.

But a flake shortage threatens to wreck the rush for 99 ice creams at the van parked up on the curb.

So you might be better off stocking up on your own frozen supplies at home.

You don't have to let eat into your wallet either.

Here are the best deals you can score now from all your favourite supermarkets and more.

FREE Cadbury ice cream at Sainsbury's

Shoppers can bag free Cadbury ice cream at Sainsbury's.

The store's come in a pack of four, but a "secret" code means scoring a taste without paying a penny.

You can only get them online though and you'll need to be armed with "FREECADBURYICE" to claim.

There are 7,000 available, but that doesn't mean you should hang about.

But you've only got until June 28 or until all the codes are used before they shoot back up their regular price.

And you can also only use your code once.

Keep in mind that you'll need to have met the minimum order of £25 for delivery - which costs £7 for orders under £40, or £1-£7 for orders £40 plus.

It's not the only freebie on offer at Sainsbury's either.

You can get a separate four pack of .

There's three different flavours to choose from that each cost £4 to buy otherwise.

But claiming the FREE ice cream works in just the same way as the Cadbury treats on offer.

Use code FREEEXTREME at the checkout to redeem this version though.

Another 7,000 are available but subject to selling out fast - though you have a little longer to claim the goods as the code works until July 19.

Remember to factor in Sainsbury's delivery fees again, but the good news is that you can claim multiple different codes on the same delivery, so you can double up on both freebies.

FREE ice cream with posh John Lewis membership

FREE Jude’s ice cream is up for grabs at "The place to eat" for John Lewis reward members.

It's free to join the posh store's loyalty scheme.

Once you're signed up, you can get other discounts and freebies at the in-store café from time to time - but this frozen freebie is only sticking around until July 3.

To claim, you have to first be registered with the store membership, before presenting your reward on its app at the till when you go to pay.

But remember you can only use the code once so plan your visit to the on-site café wisely.

£1 off TikTok craze ice cream at Tesco

Tesco shoppers can get £1 off the ice cream that sent TikTok into meltdown last year.

Little Moons gained increasing popularity as the summer months went on, and now customers can get them at a discount.

That is, if they're signed up to the supermarket giant's own reward scheme.

Armed with a Tesco "Clubcard", shoppers can get instant reductions on the prices found on the shelves.

The reward price for means its only £3.50 to buy, instead of the full £4.50 price.

There's four different flavours to choose from but the exclusive discount is only sticking around until June 27.

Save 50p with Morrisons multibuy ice cream

Morrisons shoppers can save 50p if they buy their ice cream in bulk.

Up to 27 different ice cream boxes on offer for £2 at the budget supermarket are cheaper to buy in multiples.

That's because right now if you , instead of £4.

If you're having a garden party, the kids have all their friends over after school, or you just want to keep the freezer stocked up, you can save 50p overall.

The Cadbury Dairy Milk Caramel ice cream cones for example, come in a pack of four already, but if you're feeling extra peckish the deal means a saving on double the volume.

Meanwhile, the £2 mini Twisters come in a pack of 8, but in the multibuy deal you get a whopping 16 ice creams for less.

Ben and Jerry's 'rolled-back' at Asda

Asda frequently slashes prices on its supermarket shelves, by slapping a "Roll Back" discount on popular products.

Household favourite, Ben and Jerry's, has made this cut this time round, with up to £1.50 wiped from the cost of a handful of flavours.

Most of the 465ml tubs cost £4.50 to buy at full price.

Ben and Jerry's non-dairy and vegan cookie dough incarnation has been for now though.

Meanwhile, its chocolate fudge brownie, phish food, and more have been marked down to £3.50 - still saving shoppers a £1 on the usually pricey product.
