THE August bank holiday is a chance to have a day off and enjoy the summer weather.

But the bank holiday might mean your rubbish collectors will come at a different time to usual.

So how will your local council deal with the public holiday?

Here's everything you need to know about when your bins will be collected.

When are the bin collection dates over the bank holiday?

Most refuse collection services run as normal on the August bank holiday.

But this can differ between councils, as some have different approaches.

If your refuse is usually collected on any day of the week apart from Monday, there is a high probability that there will be no change to the service.

It is always best to check by popping in your postcode on your council’s website to confirm the dates for rubbish collection.

Southwark Council and Tower Hamlets Council have said it is best to check their websites.

You can always ring your local council to check as well.

When will my bin collection resume?

This depends on your local council and what they have decided.

Some collections will take place a day later when it falls on a bank holiday.

Councils who aren't collecting over the August bank holiday will push their days back or forward by 24 hours to accommodate this.

For example, if your collection day is usually a Monday, your waste and recycling collection scheduled for Monday, August 26, would move to Tuesday, August 27.

Once the bank holiday weekend is over, your bin collection days will go back to normal.

Remember to put your sacks and garden waste out by 7pm on your allocated collection day.
