Affected locations will shut between August and November this year.

Workers union Unite said 69 employees are affected by the latest closures.

Lloyds said it would aim to support staff impacted and move those who wanted to stay with the bank to a new role.

For each branch which will close, there will be a free cash machine or Post Office within one mile, so affected customers can still access their cash.

Lloyds Banking Group currently has 1,475 branches - 738 Lloyds, 553 Halifax, and 184 Bank of Scotland.

A Lloyds Banking Group spokesperson said: "A Lloyds Banking Group spokesperson said: "It remains true that online and mobile banking continue to grow, as branch usage falls.

"On average, visits to these 28 branches have dropped by 60% since 2016, while we now have 18.6million regular online banking customers and over 15million mobile app users."

Unite slammed the closures as "inexcusable", threatening scores of job losses.

National officer Caren Evans said: "This news is another example of a bank choosing to walk away from the communities who need access to banking."

It marks the latest wave of branch closures by Lloyds Banking Group.

In March, it announced that 60 locations - 24 Lloyds Bank, 19 Bank of Scotland, and 17 Halifax - would shut for good, affecting 124 jobs.

It came after the banking giant shuttered 48 sites earlier this year.

Lloyds Banking Group isn't the only bank to have slashed the number of its branches.

TSB announced in November that it would axe as many as 70 branches.

While Santander shuttered 111 sites before last summer, and HSBC announced it would close 82 branches in 2021.

Experts predict that around 700 to 800 bank sites across the UK could face the chop in 2022.
