Home infested with termites and dead animals on the market for eye-watering price

A HOME infested with termites and dead animals has sold for a eye-watering £464,000.

The filthy property, located in Brisbane, Australia, was flogged by estate agents, despite a warning to potential buyers that it “wasn’t for the faint hearted.”

Pictures of the home soon underlined why it had earnt such a bad reputation as it was cladded with deadly asbestos and lead.

Termites had evidently nibbled away at the walls of the kitchens and bedrooms, while furnishings were covered with dust and dirt,.

Most notably, the new owner would also have the deal with the precense of dead animals after a grim snap showed a skeletal possum tail as it hung from one of the ceilings.

It came as auctioneers signalled that the property would require extensive repair jobs, despite citing it as a “great opportunity to remove and build a new home.”

One of the realtors who sold the property, Kathy Lillecrapp, said they she was never worried that the property wouldn’t sell despite the flaws.

She told : “We knew that something like this would be highly sought after because: one, there’s not much land around, and two, it’s in a beautiful position.

“It was literally the worst house in one of the nicest streets.”

The estate agents confirmed that the buyer has no immediate plans for the property, after intending to secure the profitable land for the time being.

But located just a 15 minute drive from the Brisbane central business district, Kathy believes the home is a wise investment for the future.

She added: “If you restore [the property] back to its original condition, and you left it on the 615sq m block, you could get upwards of $1.2 million (£674,000).”

“If you built a new one, you could be looking at a lot more, depending on how many bedrooms and bathrooms.”

Yesterday, The Sun revealed a couple’s story of success after revealing how they transformed a run-down £8,000 home into a £232,000 B&B business in just five years.

The pair say they will add £224,000 to the property's value by the time the rental business opens next year after doing most of the work themselves.

Owner Jennfier Coomer told the Sun: "Obviously, it wasn't a get rich quick plan, and it would take years to turn it into a successful business.

"But we are still working on our goal and hope to be a lot closer to our dream once our Halifax home is up and running."
