Councils are starting to pay the £150 tax rebate into bank accounts

The rebate is being given to help residents cope with the rising cost of living.

In total, around 80% of households are set to get the cash but the date it’s paid depends on which local council area you’re in.

People who live in council tax bands A to D are eligible for the grant, which doesn’t have to be paid back.

Those who pay by direct debit will get the payment first and other residents will have to apply directly to their council.
