Exact dates for Easter benefits including child benefit & Universal credit as DWP says bank holidays will change paydays
MILLIONS of people getting child benefit and Universal Credit will see their payment dates change over Easter due to the bank holidays.
People getting other benefits like tax credits and other government support will also see their paydays altered.
The Department of Work and Pensions (DWP), which oversees the payments, has revealed the key dates you need to know about.
People who usually get paid on Friday, April 15, will receive their money a day earlier, Thursday, April 14.
Those who are due to get their money on Monday April 18, will also be paid on Thursday, April 14 – three days early.
These dates cover most benefits such as Universal Credit, tax credits and pension payments, if your usual pay day falls on a bank holiday, the reports.

Similar changes will also occur over the May bank holiday and for the days marked as public holidays to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
For the May bank holiday, if your payday falls on Monday, May 2, you can expect to receive your money on Friday, April 29.
While over the Queen’s jubilee festivities, if your payment date falls on Thursday, June 2 or Friday, June 3, you should get your cash on Wednesday, June 1.
Anyone who thinks the money they are getting, or expecting, is not enough they can apply for a hardship payment – but this has to be paid back.
More details of how to do this can be found on the .
Payment dates for child benefit
Child benefit amounts to £21.15 a week for the first child and £14 a week for subsequent kids to parents who qualify.
That amount is changing in April, rising to £21.80 and £14.45 per week for additional children.
Those people who are due to be paid on Friday, April 15, will get their money a day earlier, April 14.
Similarly, if you’re due to be paid on Monday, April 18, you’ll receive your payment on April, 14, instead.
If you are due to be paid on a day that is not a bank holiday, you will get your money as normal.
Tax credit payment date changes
Tax credits – child tax credits and working tax credit – operate using a different system.
Payment dates:
If due: Friday, April 15, 2022 – you’ll be paid: Thursday April 14, 2022
If due: Monday, April 18, 2022 – you’ll be paid: Thursday April 14, 2022
Universal Credit payments
This is likely to change around Easter as well but depends on your “assessment period”.
This period starts on the date when you first made a claim for the benefit, and you will then receive cash each calendar month afterwards.
Payment is often released seven day after the initial assessment period is over.
However, with the Easter weekend giving millions of workers two days off, the cash you are expecting to receive could change dates.
If you’re expecting to get your money on Friday, April 15, or Monday, April 18, you can expect to have the cash in your bank account on Thursday, April 14.
Payment dates:
Due: Friday, April 15, 2022 – Paid: Thursday April 14, 2022
Due: Monday, April 18, 2022 – Paid: Thursday April 14, 2022
Other payments
Other benefits people could receive include ESA, income support, carer’s allowance and state pensions.
