COINS

Some spenders may not have realised the significance of this 50p.

If you find it in your spare change, you could be onto a winner as it is one of the rarest in circulation.

Here is what you need to know.

How rare is the Wrestling 50p?

The Wrestling 50p was designed for the Olympic Games by Roderick Enriquez, a graphic designer from London.

There are 1,129,500 of these special coins in circulation, according to .

That's a dropkick in the ocean compared with the  regular 50ps that are circulating around tills and wallets across Britain nowadays.

In fact, the coin is so rare and sought after that it sits third on Change Checker's scarcity index.

It has a score of 86, making it very scarce and just behind the Kew Gardens and Triathlon 50p coins when it comes to rarity.

How much is the Wrestling 50p worth?

It may be one of the rarest coins, but the Wrestling 50p doesn't actually go for as much as others.

The rare Kew Gardens 50p can often sell for hundreds of pounds but the says circulated versions of the Wrestling 50p coin are selling for £8 on eBay.

That is still 16 times its face value and may change depending on sentiment and how much a collector wants it.

The coin may even be worth more to someone if it helps finish off their collection.

Some sellers who have the complete set of all 29 Olympic coins have managed to sell them as a job lot for  recently.

How rare are other 50ps in my change?

There are at least 28 other Olympic coins that could make you a few quid such as 50ps for Judo, Football and Tennis.

If you spot a different unique design on the 50ps in your change, you could find it's just as valuable - and make a lot of money from it.

Other than the Kew Gardens 50p, Peter Rabbit and Isaac Newton designs are also pretty rare.

The Isaac Newton 50p has sold for up to £48 on eBay while Peter Rabbit designs have sold for hundreds.

A coin is only worth what someone is willing to bid on it and there is no guarantee of how much you will get.

Look for designs with a low mintage, as these will be more valuable to collectors as they are harder to get their hands on.
