With the cost of living crisis trundling on, many are already having to make spending cuts where possible.

And as branded cupboard staples become more expensive, shoppers might be tempted to switch to own-brand goodies to make their money stretch.

We round up some of the top brands you are likely to see increase in price this year.

Which brands are going up?

KitKat

Mark Schneider, boss of the Swiss company Nestle which owns KitKat, : “It is a safe assumption that our input cost increases for 2022 will be higher than 2021 - that is something that we have to reflect in our pricing.”

And KitKats aren’t the only packed-lunch superstar owned by Nestle.

The group also makes the likes of Aero, Smarties, Cheerios, Nescafe and more, which means you could see price rises on some of your choccy favourites this year.

Heinz Beans

Fans of the infamous baked beans will have to dig a little deeper into their pockets if they want to enjoy a helping with their toast.

, Kraft Heinz, the company producing the products, said on February 16 that it raised prices by 3.8 percentage points in the fourth quarter.

Kraft Heinz has many well-loved products including Philadelphia cream cheese, Heinz tomato soup and Heinz Ketchup.

But if prices do go up this year, shoppers might ask themselves if it really has to be Heinz?

Marmite and Magnums

You might love it, you might hate it, but with Marmite’s prices going up, even fans may have to leave it on the shelf.

Consumer giant Unilever, which owns the condiment, said it was seeing cost increases on raw materials, freight and packaging.

And these rises are said to be to blame for its pricier products in 2022.

A spokesperson for the company said: “We don't want to put prices up but we're seeing the highest inflation we've seen in a decade.

"There will be price increases on some products and in some markets but it will not be uniform across the world."

Magnum fans are set to see the price of their favourite ice-cream go up this year, alongside the likes of Pot Noodle, Ben and Jerry’s, Cornetto, and many more owned by Unilever.

Desperados

Heineken, the company behind popular beers like Desperados and Amstel also said costs are set to rise because of increasing commodity, energy and freight expenses.

It added that consumer behaviour has shifted as a result of the UK’s lockdowns.

That means fewer people are out drinking and contributing to nightlife culture, so the demand for beer decreased.

Drinkers are already being hit, with the price of a pint likely to hit £7 in some parts of the country this year.

Meanwhile, supermarket staple prices have soared by 8%, and if you're feeling the pinch, try these four tips to lower your food bill.
