I’m a Morrisons worker – these are the best times to get yellow sticker bargains
BARGAIN hunters need to shop at the right time if they want to get the best discounts, according to one Morrisons worker.
Al Baker has revealed some of his top secrets on how to bag the best bargains at the budget supermarket.
The 48-year-old dad told his biggest tip is timing your shop to get the best yellow sticker deals.
There are certain times that you'll be able to cash-in on the best of the reduced products - so if you're in the know, you'll be able to slash your supermarket spend.
Some products will be cornered in one part of the store because they're close to their sell-by date - but still safe enough to eat.
They'll be marked with yellow stickers that show a new, much cheaper price as they're just about to go off.
Al said that snagging these products could get as much as 80% off the usual price.
Bargain hunters have revealed in the past that the evening is often the best time to stock up.
He said that in his experience, the end of the day is the most common time for staff to apply the coveted yellow stickers to products.
This will depend on your local store though - and some shoppers claim to have success first thing in the morning.
A common tip is to ask staff in the supermarket when they tend to apply discounts, as they're the people in the know.
Once you know the best time, be sure to hang around at that point in the day as bargains tend to go quickly.
And remember, you might be able to freeze what you buy, so even if it's near its sell-by date, you don't have to eat it straight away.
Al said he'd seen more and more people seek out the yellow sticker bargains in-store since the start of the pandemic.
He said: “You literally get fights now between people trying to grab a bargain - I’m not joking."
That's perhaps not surprising given that Brits are battling a cost of living crisis that's seen everything from bills, petrol and grocery prices rise.
Inflation is partly to blame too, with supermarket staples - including milk, cheese, eggs and meat - already going up in cost.
According to BBC, the price of doing the supermarket shop soared by 8% over the past year.
The typical family is set to fork out an extra £180 a year on their groceries.
And Tesco bosses even warned that food prices could soar another 5% in just months.
But Al revealed he had also been in a desperate financial situation in the past, and relied on the yellow sticker bargains to help him through.
He now hopes his shopping hack will help others as the cost of living bites.
He said: “I was that yellow sticker finder at my local Co-op every single night, there to make sure that I grabbed something."
